Re: Is there anything you would NEVER pay in cash? 2Jun 12, 2009 10:29 pm In our case, so far, the only thing we wouldn't want to pay in cash is the steel frame, as we are getting it from a different state and it might be too much of a risk for such a big amount of money. Re: Is there anything you would NEVER pay in cash? 3Jun 12, 2009 10:59 pm You don't want to pay everything by cash. I would suggest you paid partly by cash and small amount on the book. Item such as plumber & electrician you need to pay some on the book so that their work is remain under license and they have responsible to fix up if there is a problem or when come to the worse if there is an electrical fault which cause fire then the Authority might want to see the company install it. If you pay by cash and you don't get a receipt then you cannot argue abt that. I suggest you pay some by cash and some on book. Re: Is there anything you would NEVER pay in cash? 4Jun 12, 2009 11:03 pm Yeh definately pay some stuff by the book and then cover the rest by cash: suits you and suits the tradie. If you need receipts for the important things, always get it and pay whichever way works for everyone. BUT cash would be the best way to go for other things; you get heaps of discounts that way. Re: Is there anything you would NEVER pay in cash? 5Jun 12, 2009 11:04 pm pay cash for materials fine never pay cash for services you may need to fall back on getting repairs for also be careful of any cash payments before work is done and thoroughly checked stay safe happy building Re: Is there anything you would NEVER pay in cash? 6Jun 12, 2009 11:36 pm Thank you all! Your advice is much appreciated, as always Re: Is there anything you would NEVER pay in cash? 7Jun 13, 2009 7:16 pm I offered to pay the plumber in cash, but he said we're better off doing in through the books for warranty/insurance claims, or some such thing. Cheers, Pete viewtopic.php?f=38&t=8824 Re: Is there anything you would NEVER pay in cash? 8Jun 13, 2009 7:25 pm There is no incentive for a trades person to do a cash job sans GST, if they get caught they are liable for the GST plus a fine. The owner who paid by cash could also liable for GST according to the ATO. 10% is nothing in the big scheme of things and not worth the risk. That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17773 I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
