Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jun 09, 2009 9:14 pm I've only been able to get one roof tile quote. It's from CSR and seems very expensive ($18,000 for homestead sambuca). This doesn't include installation or guttering etc. This seems very expensive and I would like to get a few more quotes. I'm still waiting for a quote from Boral but what other big companies are there? By the way, I've looked through the yellow pages and have contacted a lot of companies but most of them only do Colorbond and the ones who do tiles are very slow in getting back with quotes... Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 2Jun 09, 2009 9:20 pm The other big one is Bristile. They'll be on display at Austral brick centres and also on the Austral website. But they are the major three, CSR/Monier, Boral and Bristile that I can think of. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Have now contacted Bristile and hope they get back to me soon (with a good price) Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 4Jun 09, 2009 10:43 pm hi getting there are you 100% sure it doesnt include installation?? Here in Vic it is very difficult to get supply only. I agree with you that it wouldnt including roof plumbing because thats another mans job. How many square meters of roofing have you got?? It should say on the quote. This will give us here a good idea if it is expensive or not. Also did that price include in sarking or fall protection?? Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 5Jun 09, 2009 10:54 pm I am pretty sure it doesn't include installation HOMESTEAD SAMBUCA $16,900.00 $1,690.00 (gst)= total $18,590.00 Here is what it says on the quote: Standard Inclusions FLEXIPOINT HIP AND RIDGE 104.97 LM GUARDRAIL 83.49 LM HIP 79.38 LM RIDGE 25.59 LM STOREY 2ND ALLOWANCE 194.37 M2 TILING 411.15 M2 VALLEY CUTTING 30.46 LM Notes Estimated with Colour On Concrete Tile. It should say on the quote. This will give us here a good idea if it is expensive or not. Also did that price include in sarking or fall protection?? It's a two storey house, I'm guessing all up it's 411.15M2 but nor sure what the following means: STOREY 2ND ALLOWANCE 194.37 M2 TILING 411.15 M2 Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 8Jun 09, 2009 11:22 pm borg doesn't sound clear to me. For around 400 square meters of roof i would have thought it would be around $13000, however since you have a double storey and need fall protection etc it will cost around $14000. Now this quote also includes a detached shed. And our roof is a bit comples in a sense that the house isnt a box, so there is a roof on both the ground floor (around the sides) and second storey (the second storey is indented on the sides and the back), if this makes sense. Could the quote mean that the second storey tiling is 194.37 M2 and the ground floor and detached garage are 411.15 M2 so in total around 605m2? I dont know, I'm confused I will have to ring CSR so they can clarify this for me :S Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 9Jun 09, 2009 11:27 pm Well the last house i got a quote on was 11800 for a similar roof tile and that around 400 square meters. Now if your roof is 600 that would be the price i would expect. And the more valleys and hips you have the more the cost goes up. You should be able to get a rough estimate by looking at the area. ie how much area of floor space is covered by roof, and for a pitched roof the area will actually be more than that. I believe it was mentioned on this forum that a figure you increase it by 20% to get rough guestimate. The house is 394m2 in total, but minus the upper floor (149m2) = 245m2 and then the detached shed is 80m2 so all up it's 325m2. (The pitch is 25. ) + 20% works out to 390. So the approx area to cover is 390m2, is that right? Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 11Jun 10, 2009 10:47 am Just heard back from CSR and here is the clarification: 2nd storey is 194.37 m2 1st storey is 216.78 m2 Total area is 411.15 m2 There are 4650 tiles Also, because it is a steel frame it requires a little extra work for fixing to metal rafters at approx $2.00 + GST per m2 grrrrrr Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 13Jun 10, 2009 10:56 am It turns out that the quote includes installation Is this a good price then, considering it includes installation? Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 14Jun 10, 2009 12:29 pm Hi gettingthere I think it is a good price when we were thinking of going with tiles, Bristile gave us a quote for $22k for a similar roof coverage the colourbond cost us about 5k less Nina "The fearless are merely fearless. My first bargain quote Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 16Jun 25, 2009 3:57 am Hi GT, is there any particular reason for tiles? reason i ask is that i've only ever built 1 titled roofed house - used tiles cos back then spanish look was all the go....white walls orange tiles - oh boy did i have trouble with storm damage, never big areas, but ridge caps, odd tile here & there. cos of that last 3 have all been metal clad. if ur hearts set on it fine, if its an option, like Nina says, usually cheaper & IMO lot less worry!!! cheers tony Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 17Jun 25, 2009 8:23 pm T&V Hi GT, is there any particular reason for tiles? reason i ask is that i've only ever built 1 titled roofed house - used tiles cos back then spanish look was all the go....white walls orange tiles - oh boy did i have trouble with storm damage, never big areas, but ridge caps, odd tile here & there. cos of that last 3 have all been metal clad. if ur hearts set on it fine, if its an option, like Nina says, usually cheaper & IMO lot less worry!!! cheers tony Hi Tony We just prefer the look of tiles. Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 18Jun 26, 2009 12:44 am Thats fine GT, i'm sure it will all be OK, just find out what BCA requirement for fixing ur type of tiles is & make sure its that or better even if u have to pay a bit extra for more tiles than usual being fixed. years ago there were 2 fixing ways - old days was wire on every 3rd tile from memory (gee long time ago tho /memory average now) then nails replaced wire. whatever method is used now i'd make it more than usual cos IMO storm events r becoming more common these days. my nephew lost part of tile roof at Bunbury (WA) 2 weeks ago (near ocean) when he checked, big distances between nail downs! also keep eye on the fixing of ridges.... if any or all of this is new territory for u, ask tile company if they can tell u where some fixing is happening & take a look to familiarise urself b4 hand. having said all that u can see how i tend to overbuild lot of the time - i just like minimising risk as much as i can even if it costs a bit more. good luck cheers tony Re: Anyone getting a TILED roof? 19Jun 26, 2009 9:47 am gettingThere T&V Hi GT, is there any particular reason for tiles? reason i ask is that i've only ever built 1 titled roofed house - used tiles cos back then spanish look was all the go....white walls orange tiles - oh boy did i have trouble with storm damage, never big areas, but ridge caps, odd tile here & there. cos of that last 3 have all been metal clad. if ur hearts set on it fine, if its an option, like Nina says, usually cheaper & IMO lot less worry!!! cheers tony Hi Tony We just prefer the look of tiles.
