Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 May 30, 2009 10:22 pm Thought i'd start a thread / time line in the OB section as our build is starting to roll along nicely now and hopefully it will provide a basic step by step guide for anyone who cares.
We started back on the 12th of may with the site scrape. We only had to cut about 100mm and fill 75mm, nice and easy job for a bobcat, anything worse and we would have used a drott. Also put some recycled concrete / gravel down for a temp driveway. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 15.5.09 Got a surveyor out to check the boundary pegs and do a building set out. Day after we spent half a day setting up recovery pegs / profiles for the footing works but probably would just spray paint the ground next time 'THAT' torrential rain held us up for a week 25.5.09 Excavated footings, man that soil is good, like butter. Re: I built it like this........ 2May 31, 2009 5:17 pm congratulations let the fun begin stay safe happy building Re: I built it like this........ 3Jun 02, 2009 12:48 am Hi W/M great start - nice level block to start with, certainly kept site costs down. sorry i'd do hurdle profiles every time but i'd set them a bit higher than what i can see in the pics so u can still use them when the slabs finished - just an old time habit for me for ref when layout over the slab. if u haven't done so already it would be a good idea to run a good quality tape over the outside corner to corner of bricks to make sure its spot on square b4 the slab goes down. re pump crete - yep its easy way to do it, & sometimes the time saving will save money depends how ur being charged by granos. if u get a price & it includes the pump thats fine, but i've found paying for 2 extra labourers for 4 hrs is cheaper than paying for the pump on a flat easy access site- check it out b4 doing the slab? some granos still like to barrow & "work" the concrete when doing slab to keep consistancy & slump of concrete - for & against both ways - what ever works 4 u is good if the slab goes down well!!! good cool time of year for the slab to go off - don't rush into putting load of brick packs on it too quickly cheers tony. Re: I built it like this........ 5Jun 11, 2009 9:52 pm Thanks Bingo shelley, its great to be getting some where finally.
Cheers T&V, probably should have taken your advice in hind sight, pump ended up sitting for a while with the bogged truck mess anyway, you live and learn. Chuth, love the loamy soil but the bloody plumbers excavator bloke left a heap of sticky clay at the front of the block Dont know where he dug that up from With some pretty crappy weather around, it didn't look like it was going to happen as i'd planned but the boys worked through the rain last week, to get the steel in and ready to go for the concrete to be poured on friday. 4.6.09 - Slab reo in, boxing up, alfresco posts in, termite protection on penetrations, ready to go Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 5.6.09 - the first few metres of 40m3 of liquid stone going in, good crew to work with Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The wet ground claims its first victim Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Nearly done Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Slab is layed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Dropped by site yesterday and noticed that the energex meter has been installed so i figure i now have power. Re: I built it like this........frames up 14Jul 06, 2009 11:00 pm Work has been a bit busy lately but finally got back on site last week.
Although i wasn't real keen on it, the FIL talked me into a stick frame (i figured pre nailed would save us time, which is a luxury we dont have atm) but we ended up knocking it all up in 1 and a half days. First pic is of Fridays work Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and was pretty happy to have it all in and get the beams up for a late lunch on site saturday Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It was a real advantage to have the oppurtunity to adjust things as we went and it felt strangely empowering to be able to do so . It was great to finally be able to walk through the house and get a bit of a feel for something i have spent the last 6 months designing on paper. Trusses are on site and are going up this week and hopefully fascia, gutters and roof next week. Ooohhh those phone pics aren't so good, will have to get some better ones tomorrow. Re: I built it like this........frames up 19Jul 10, 2009 6:24 am wake_me there is plastic under the footings. But the plastic isnt continuous you can see it in the picture, and damp like nothing more than tight spaces to wriggle through, All the rising damp Ive fixed in the past was usually nothing more than a pin hole or split in the damp proof membrane.. But the plastic isnt continuous you can see it in the picture, and damp like nothing more than tight spaces to wriggle through, All the rising damp Ive fixed in the past was usually nothing more than a pin hole or split in the damp proof membrane.. The layer of plastic under the top layer is taped to the under footing plastic. The top layer is just drapped over the top (as a back up). The plastic was left over from another job of the FIL's so it didn't cost me anything. No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11569 I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15244 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
