We started our house design/planning process 2 years ago and we can't seem to find the original quote

Regardless if you can find the original quote or not, you can't expect someone to honour a price from two years ago. Some 40sq houses could have none, some could have dozens of beams and columns depending on the design. So, the question of if the price is reasonable is completely dependent on how many beams columns etc have been designed and NOT simply on the size of the house. Builders are people too.... We had a LOT of beams so it now makes sense why it cost so much.
