Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 May 08, 2009 1:54 pm Hi guys We've been quoted $38,000 for our footings and 20mpa concrete. Do you think it would be worth paying an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble (140 tonne @ $15.00/tonne ) and an extra $500 to upgrade to 25mpa concrete? Or do you think it wouldn't be necessary? Re: Would you pay an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble? 2May 09, 2009 12:12 am Hi gettingThere, u have to give us a few more details of footing sizes, length of footing, type of build, single storey or split level, level block or sloped, soil type etc. $38,000 seems a lot for just footings but without knowing what the footing r for etc its hard to say...??....hope with more details we can help ! cheers tony Re: Would you pay an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble? 3May 09, 2009 10:09 am Thanks Tony. It's a double storey house and a detached garage. The footings are 300mm wide and 700mm deep. The house is 245sqm ( or 394sqm including the first floor) and the garage is 80sqm. So all up, 325sqm worth of footings? Re: Would you pay an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble? 4May 09, 2009 10:10 am Oh, and the block is just flat. Re: Would you pay an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble? 5May 09, 2009 2:05 pm Basically what I'm after is for someone to advise me what the benefits of using 200mm thick quarry rubble and 25mpa concrete as opposed to 20mpa, are Re: Would you pay an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble? 6May 09, 2009 4:25 pm for 500 extra i would upgrade the concrete strength cant hurt not sure about rubble though stay safe happy building Re: Would you pay an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble? 8May 10, 2009 12:09 pm chuth77 What's the rubble for? Will it reduce your footing costs... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Would you pay an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble? 12May 11, 2009 12:05 am Hi GT, is it double brick or b/veneer top & bottom? who designed the footings? firstly if the people who designed the footings are NOT the concrete suppliers, i would be running the options passed the person who designed the footings for comment. secondly, at that amount of money i'd also be getting 2 other quotes..... for d/brick single storey 350m2 sitting on compacted sand , i had 100mm slab, the subfloor concrete beams at 5 m centres that were 300w X 350 deep, external footings were designed at 300w X 350D( i extended to 350w to better fit bricks) for footings, sub beams & slab concrete (plus all reo, mesh, poly sheet, bar chairs) supply & pour was $28,000. hope that gives u some basis for comparison.. cheers tony Re: Would you pay an extra $2,100 for 200mm thick quarry rubble? 13May 11, 2009 9:53 am T&V Hi GT, is it double brick or b/veneer top & bottom? who designed the footings? firstly if the people who designed the footings are NOT the concrete suppliers, i would be running the options passed the person who designed the footings for comment. secondly, at that amount of money i'd also be getting 2 other quotes..... for d/brick single storey 350m2 sitting on compacted sand , i had 100mm slab, the subfloor concrete beams at 5 m centres that were 300w X 350 deep, external footings were designed at 300w X 350D( i extended to 350w to better fit bricks) for footings, sub beams & slab concrete (plus all reo, mesh, poly sheet, bar chairs) supply & pour was $28,000. hope that gives u some basis for comparison.. cheers tony Thanks for that. I will ask the engineer who designed the footings for his opinion. By the way, this is by far the cheapest quote we got. Our footings are twice as deep as yours, maybe that's why they are more expensive? (300mm wide and 700mm deep) That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17895 As is per usual for many of the past failed RWH regulations, it is probably traceable to a bureaucrat who's ego overrode the need to seek the appropriate expert… 1 1029 Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic).
