Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 May 01, 2009 10:49 am Ok, so being the pesimist that I am, I find it hard to believe we are actually going to build a house. I am just waiting for something to pop up & stand in our way. But I have been told IT IS HAPPENING!!! So I am finally accepting that it's happening. The budget is set & the paperwork being completed for approval. We are building what we need for now, a small 2 bedroom steel kit home on parents land in QLD. Internal is only 64 m2, including verandah 85 m2. I was wondering when do you put in the insulation? Being a colourbond steel home I'm guessing we are going to need insulation in the walls. Roughly what does it cost? Also contemplating the tank size. Currently our water bill says we use 107 kl for 4 people. There will only be the 2 of us in the new place. With no town water available we need a big tank. I have ben quote $4000 for a 27,000l tank. Is that a reasonable price? Is delivery of these things expensive? Is it too big? As well as the roof etc. "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality" -John Lennon Re: It's GOING to happen & a few questions 5May 01, 2009 1:16 pm Thanks Borg. Another question I have is how much are timber floors? I'm not talking floating floors, actual timber floors? "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. I'm not talking floating floors, actual timber floors? Do you mean the structural particle board also known as yellow tongue, red tongue etc? This is about $40 - $50 per sheet. You can get foil insulated as well which is about $70 per sheet. JB Re: It's GOING to happen & a few questions 7May 04, 2009 6:58 pm We are having suspended flooring & just want timber floorboards. Everything I see just seems to be floating flooring. "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. Have been waiting for an approval for a few weeks now. All good news except for the fact that the plan is it will be within a certain distance of the easement for the Overhead electrical wires which run through our property. Grrr. Now waiting on council & Energex to sort that out. This feels like it's taking forever!! "A dream you dream alone is only a dream.
