Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Apr 25, 2009 2:19 pm hi all any guide as to how much to allow for the surveyor to do the set out? trying to do our budget Re: Surveyor set out cost 2Apr 25, 2009 4:23 pm hey loretta we asked a local builder to come do ours and we only paid him $40.00 and returned the hurdles when we were finished with them which was 6 mths later. he done a fantastic job as so far everything has been a perfect fit but you dont need a surveyor to do it an ordinary builder with some extra time and no work may be able to help out. stay safe happy building Re: Surveyor set out cost 4Apr 25, 2009 7:01 pm Paying a surveyor for slab set-outs may be money well spent. I had an attack of miserliness and "saved" money by having the granos do the set-outs. I ended up with the slab out of square and with wrong dimensions and I had to get that slab surveyed anyway, for $600. In the end that "saving" costed me at least 6 times more than an average surveyor's fee in money and 2 months delay! Re: Surveyor set out cost 6Apr 25, 2009 7:11 pm Granos = Grano workers = concretors. If I were starting my build again, I'd have the surveyors to set-out the slab and formworkers do do the formboards and have the concretors only to do the pour. That's what they're qualified for. My Husband is a Mine Surveyor, and that cost sounds about right from what he has told me. Shame you're not in Nannup, I'm sure he'd do it for a lesser price (depending on equipment hire cost), he actually pegged out ours for the builders and we got some extras thrown in with the earthworks for it (probably $500 worth). Re: Surveyor set out cost 8Apr 26, 2009 9:07 am After our acreage (2 hectares, boundery setback 15 meters) was surveyed and soiltested for $1850 the surveyer stated that they could not locate four of the seven PEGS. Additional costs $1200. The slab has not been set out yet as we still have not decided on the builder. Another builder stated that they probably could do with three PEGS and if not that they would charge $400 extra. Re: Surveyor set out cost 9Apr 26, 2009 9:43 am Annelies, does that mean you paid over 3k all up for your site survey?? ouch! Re: Surveyor set out cost 10Apr 26, 2009 9:54 am wow and ouch we did guard those pegs with our lives i must say but 3 grand omg that would definately hurt glad we only paid 40 bucks maybe i should of brought the guy a slab too stay safe happy building Re: Surveyor set out cost 11Apr 27, 2009 7:34 am loretta Annelies, does that mean you paid over 3k all up for your site survey?? ouch! Around the $2 K I think, Loretta, because the $1850 includes other costs like the soiltest, drawings and Tenders, also. That is if we go with this project builder. Re: Surveyor set out cost 12May 06, 2009 2:37 pm Sorry for such a dumb question but what exactly does surverying, setting out and re-pegging mean and how do I know if I need any or all of those? Re: Surveyor set out cost 13May 06, 2009 6:07 pm gettingThere Sorry for such a dumb question but what exactly does surverying, setting out and re-pegging mean and how do I know if I need any or all of those? Surveying: Here's a bit of humour for you.... Quote: We are those people that when you are chatting someone up and they say "so what job do you do?" we have to firstly ponder if its even worth telling them that we are surveyors and then secondly if we do tell them have to go through the whole process of trying to explain what we actually do. So in the spirit of making life simple South Australian Surveyor Dan Kruimel cam up with the explaination of "We measure stuff" Quote: new explanation for what an underground mine surveyor does: We tell you where you are, where you're meant to go, where you've been, and how badly the Engineers and Geo's screwed you up But basically a Surveyor will use known reference points to tell you exactly where you just hammered that peg into the ground! Setting out is basically pegging out where your house is going to go (or just a "building envelope" so that you can orientate your house within it later). Our builder had a quantity surveyor come up first, and survey all the RL's (relative level / contours of the land) trees that were to be removed / left near the house and the existing shed relative to where the house was going to go. Before earthworks began Hubby and I pegged out the house within the building envelope (he did it accurately to make sure we got the right orientation etc). After that the earthworkers obviously knocked the pegs out, but they would move one or two a known distance in a certain direction so that they still had a reference point. When the grano workers came on site they had to re-orientate the house again, there were conversations with hubby over the phone (he was away) to make sure they knew where in relation to the tank it was meant to be and how far from another nearby reference point. But usually there should be some good reference points or pegs left to make the job easier for them. And it's not all about location too, they have to make sure they know at what reference level they're working at too. If you are going through a standard builder then I imagine they get a surveyor to come in and do the job, it's usually why you have to pay the deposit early on, it would cover that fee, as well as engineers fee etc. Here's what we did for the earthworkers, they said they're usually lucky if they can find one peg!! http://i417.photobucket.com/albums/pp253/mtbpebble/IMG_1756.jpg Re: Surveyor set out cost 17May 07, 2009 10:13 am wake_me Just been quoted $850 for site survey, $650 for building set out. Only budgeted $1K Do you know how many corners your building set out fee includes? The cheapest (fixed) quote I've been able to find is $1200 plus GST for both the survey and building set out (or 700 + 650 if separatelly). The cheapest survey fee I've been able to find was $660 (including gst). Another quote which souds ok: To attend the site, place 4 marks and prepare an identification survey plan would be $950.00 (incl GST). In the case of repegging (all 4 marks again if necessary) would be $220.00 (incl GST). Re: Surveyor set out cost 18May 07, 2009 9:00 pm Our set out is $990 to include all RLs, positioning of strip footings and slab. I think we get some docos with this too. JB Re: Surveyor set out cost 20May 17, 2009 10:50 pm Site setouts are much simpler than a block survey and there are some surveyors that have specialised only in this area as it saves time for builders and reduces the stuff ups - especially on heavily sloped sites. We use Southern Setouts in Melbourne and they are heaps cheaper than what I have read here. Call Mark and get a quote 0418 363 824 Builders are people too.... Thank you so much.
