Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Apr 19, 2009 10:53 pm Hi guys How much do you have to pay for "decent" tiles these days. I know everyone's definition on decent is different but I would just like to know a rough idea. A friend of mine paid $40 sqm for his tiles and reckons they are aqesome but his friend is getting $120 tiles. Exactly how much better are the $120 ones? Is it really worth it? I guess it all depends on how much cash you've got to burn but still... Re: How much do you have to pay for decent tiles? 2Apr 19, 2009 10:54 pm I am hoping to get hardwood flooring for $100 all finished. Around $60 for the wood and $40 for the glue polish and all other bits. We will be laying them ourselves... Am I dreaming? Do you think this will be possible? :S Re: How much do you have to pay for decent tiles? 3Apr 20, 2009 8:00 am Regarding Tiles, 120 a square meter are most likely italian tiles and hence lilke everythign italian they are very expensive. There are many Chinese tiles that are very good on the market, not as good as italian but not far off but only a percentage of the price. IMHO if you can buy a good quality chinese tile withoout having to go italian your way in front. In terms of performance chipping etc when you go porcilian they are both very similar.
You would be better of going for the chinese tile and invest the money you save back in the project you will end up with a bigger bang for buck. Regarding timber, there are still a few variables that you need to determine, re the method. Sold timber can proably be done for $100s/m however it is not that simple. In my case I wanted 19mm flooring so i had to go min 15mm ply then i had the hight issue so i put plywood in all my rooms. Looks good and souond solid however this has went i have spent $3000 for underlay, with out even laying one stick of timber. I don't see any difference between those we bought and the Italian ones. Italian tiles similar to ours (600x600 polished porcelain) cost around $100 m2, we bought ours much cheaper.
