The sockets for the Wall Mounted Plate: RJ45 - ADSL RJ11 - Telephone RJ12 - Telephone 1. What is the difference between RJ11 & RJ12? Which one would an electrician usually install in Sydney, NSW? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am thinking of this setup. These brand/products or similar. ADSL Remote Filter Splitter -------------------------------------- http://www.c10.com.au/web/Products/ADSL ... 0100E.html The Model C10100E is a Remote splitter/filter (Central splitter/filter) for use at a central location within customer’s premise. Its purpose is to centrally separate the ADSL signal and voice frequency signal. No distributed (inline) filters are required in this installation Approved technical person will be required to install. ADSL Wall Plate Phone Filters (Wall Plates)------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.besonline.com.au/Script/MCH ... wall+plate These look good, they have all the connections there, ADSL, phone, line. CLIPSAL COMPATIBLE INSERT CAT5E CAT3 RJ45 RJ11 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CLIPSAL-COMPATIB ... 21001r1652 Also, the wall plates with the compatible inserts sound like a good idea. If the RJ socket breaks, all you have to do is buy one and replace it yourself in the plate, eliminating having to pay the telephone-cable person a service charge. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The remote splitter/filter already has a filter. There is also a splitter/filter in the wall plate. 2. Wouldn't 2 filters on the same line cause problems?. Also, can you get a wall plate with the connections I mentioned above with just a splitter? Re: ADSL Wall mount plates, filters + splitters + phone lines 2Mar 06, 2009 10:10 am Ok forget what you have read up on as it sounds like your missing a lot of actual details...

RJ11 has 4 pins for one or two POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) lines RJ12 has 6 pins RJ45 is for data networking with 8 pins. An RJ11 will fit in all three sockets but an RJ45 won't go in a RJ11 Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now a central filter will usually go where the incoming phone lines terminates at the house. Hence the lovely industrial outdoorsy style enclosure. Be very careful here. Telstra are very protective over their "boundaries" One central filter will then split the ADSL frequencies out from the voice frequencies and eliminate the need for any wall mount or "matchbox" style filters. A cable will need to be run from the Central filter to the ADSL modem. These replace the old chunky ivory or cream coloured telstra 610 sockets. The clip in style outlets are the way to go, although I hate anything but Krone brand. You will need a special tool to do the terminations properly. I suggest you get it done properly or your ADSL speeds will suffer through bad connections. RJ sockets don't usually break easily if done correctly. Clipsal and HPM versions can work well in a lightning prone area. as they have circuit boards built in, they blow before any modems will, but will need to be replaced. Krone do not have circuit boards and will allow over voltage through to blow the crud out of the phone or modem. Licenced Sparky and Data Cabler If "The Data Guys" is too long to type, TDG will do. And abviously you've got the internet connecting automatically... uncheck this box, and it'll go away! Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: ADSL Wall mount plates, filters + splitters + phone lines 5Jul 07, 2009 3:48 am if you want to double check its not something disconnecting you unplug all your phones & faxes for the night except your ADSL modem and see if it still happens. I'm fairly sure this is not a virus but make sure your virus software is up to date and run a scan anyway. Internet companies often close connections after a specific time period so one group of users dont hog all the resources. Have you restared you router recently? It cant hurt to restart it now and again. Check all your cables are firmly in the sockets. Is it possible to take your computer to someone elses house for a night and see if it happens there? If what you describe is correct then the brick wall has been dry lined with villa board. That basically means that the villa board is glued to the brick wall with… 3 8311 Thank you again Simeon..
