Re: Hill House - far south coast 82Dec 01, 2011 2:08 pm Well it is coming together quite well at the moment, the ceiling is now totally lined and trimmed, walls have been painted, I have cleared the place out and commenced the floor finishing. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/PA260016.jpg looking toward the kitchen from the lounge room http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/PA260003.jpg looking toward the lounge room from the kitchen. We installed, 26 warm white 14w (840 Lumens) LED down lights, I am very happy with the outcome and price wise they worked out at under $50 each so they are affordable efficient lighting. We looked at pretty much every LED down light on the Australian market, tested 4 different units in the ceiling before deciding on the ones we went with. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/PA290006.jpg The floors have been laid for a while now and I have been itching to sand them and see what colour and figure had been obscured by 80 years of life as a biscuit factory floor. Suffice to say I am very pleased with the timber, it has all the typical traits of good brushbox with lots of good figure and the distinctive light brown/pinkish tones. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/PA290010.jpg The boards need to be sealed then they will get a few coats of traditional Tung oil. Should be finished by the weekend I would think. Monday the sparky comes back and starts his final fit, Tuesday the kitchen goes in and later that week the plumber does his final fit. In the interim I have to waterproof the bathroom floor get onto the tiling etc so...plenty happening, I think I might actually almost get it finished Steve My building project - Hill House viewtopic.php?f=38&t=13537 Who you have in your life is more important than what you have Re: Hill House - far south coast 83Dec 01, 2011 2:15 pm Wow wow wow ... it's looking fantastic and so close to finishing now, it's already looking like a home .. can't wait to see what treasures the floorboards reveal. The ceiling looks goregous - you certainly did your research with the LEDs ... What a fantastic christmas present for you both .. http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt82/canpeg_1984/N4D%20Files/Snoopys_Chrismas_House.jpg For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Hill House - far south coast 84Dec 01, 2011 2:58 pm Looking fantastic Steve!! The flooring is going to look great once oiled...looks good now!! Don't you just love downlights? so neat, tidy and unobtrusive and perfect for your ceiling. Re: Hill House - far south coast 85Dec 01, 2011 9:10 pm Very nice Steve, The use of Timber really suits the beautiful location and outlook you have. It will make your house very warm and inviting. I also just noticed on one of your last photos your an Evac Tube SHW system. Is that the Apricus unit? If so are you happy with it so far? I too am 99% sold on their system and it's always good to have real life feedback from "one in the field" so to speak Keep up the good work - not long to go now https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow Re: Hill House - far south coast 86Dec 06, 2011 9:19 pm Thanks for the kind words about my building efforts folks, it is really moving along now with some great progress. Rob the SHW system is only new so we have not used it yet, I'll let you know when it is up and running in a few days Finished polishing the floors now, I am very happy with them as they came up very well. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/PB010008.jpg I have completly finished the pantry, with all the architrieves, trims, painting and oiling done. We moved our big old antique 'pigeon hole' storage cuboards in as they would not fit past easily once the kitchen is installed. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/PB010002.jpg The meeting of east & west..80 year old brush box boards salvaged from the Westons Biscuit factory in Sydney met WA Karri that was remilled from old roof truss sections. The tales that these old timbers could tell. The kitchen install started today, it is looking pretty funky despite being quite minimal. We also put our dining table in the space so it is suddenly looking like a house! will post a few pics tommorow. I love the materials you have used and pavillion design (the setting is pretty magnificent too). Your skills as a restorer are very clear in the use of all the recycled materials. I am watching this with great interest. Re: Hill House - far south coast 88Dec 07, 2011 8:15 am That's why I got tiles .... if I had wooden floors they would have to be as delicious as yours, none of this "floating " stuff .... they have come up beautifully haven't they - you could just sit and look at them for hours couldn't you For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Hill House - far south coast 89Dec 09, 2011 9:53 pm More progress.. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/house10/PB050031.jpg No splashback or range hood but otherwise the kitchen is in and running!!!. Cooked dinner in there tonight, cracked a cheap bottle of red to celebrate three years effort to this point. Pulling a dream from my head to a three dimensional reality takes a lot of emotional and physical energy, it is partially done! http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/house10/PB050035.jpg Our new table, a 3.5 meter peg fastened Shaker table made from local recycled spotted gum, some 1920 Edison filament lights that we built and our new kitchen, such a funky blend of old and new. I am really enjoying this part of the build after so much hard toil this bit is actually fun Heap to do still but the back of it is broken. Got all the power up and running today, had a few problems with the dimmable LEDs but the rest of the lighting and power went very well. place looks awsome at night. It looks amazing in the house.........you should be on Grand Designs! Thanks for the updates, I love reading them and seeing the beautiful pictures. The workmanship is unbelievable. So much better than the "pre-fab" project home stuff. Love it! Re: Hill House - far south coast 93Dec 10, 2011 12:40 pm Congratulations once more!! It's great but how could you concentrate on cooking with a view like that? Love the suspended bench...the table...and lights, just love it all!! Re: Hill House - far south coast 94Dec 10, 2011 3:11 pm More pics of that table please steve....drooling as i type. Who did the great job with the table I adore it, I am currently looking at getting one done for our new place. Great job with the house, love the quality of finish you have put into it Cheers Michael He wants a dream home theatre - she wants a dream kitchen! Re: Hill House - far south coast 95Dec 10, 2011 5:52 pm As always thanks for such positive feedback on our house, I enjoy sharing the process. B123, simplicty is a very complex look to pull off as weird as that sounds. I love Grand Designs but we build a little slow for their schedual (a friend of mine offered his place and got knocked back cause it was going to take 2 years!!), I would love to get paid to show of my building Camper, I actually qulified as a chef a year ago (studied in my 'spare' time ) so i am often torn between the view and whats for dinner My belly usually wins out though Michael, I had a local guy make the table for me , I know...I am getting lazy He used some local recycled Spotted Gum from a demolished shed down the road from my house, it ties in nicely with the broad use of recycled materials thoughout the house. http://www.timbertrip.com.au/table-chairs-3.html here is another pic for you http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/house10/PB050027.jpg Steve My building project - Hill House viewtopic.php?f=38&t=13537 Who you have in your life is more important than what you have Re: Hill House - far south coast 96Dec 10, 2011 9:20 pm That's a better shot of the table, can see it all now....really beautiful and suits the room perfectly. Mmmm, can't live on views can you? So what do you plan in your spare time next year? Chef....Master Builder....???? LOL Re: Hill House - far south coast 97Dec 10, 2011 11:22 pm There are another 2 pavilions to be built yet... Albeit the 'easier ones' but I gotta make the $$ to pay for them... I have actually been thinking about getting my chippies ticket as I can apply for advanced standing (credit) for most of the TAFE trade course which would only mean a semester or so of study to get it. Can't have too many trades can you?? My profesional work has been a little quiet of late so it may be time to move on to something new. Re: Hill House - far south coast 99Dec 11, 2011 3:19 pm If it's only a semester you might as well give it a go, nothing to lose, imho. Great idea to work with OB's I'm sure you would get lots of work once they see your photos. Won't touch the last comment....will leave that to Kiwi or Dee!!...ROFLMHO!! The other two pavilions would be a good 'work experience' project for apprentice chippies. I like the open space of the third one, would be a fantastic work room.
