Keep us updated as you go along Re: Hill House - far south coast 142Feb 18, 2015 1:16 pm Ever so slow.... but I have finished the sub floor structure, fitted the bathroom flooring and have started putting up the roof beams and wall frames. In between making a living and having a life I think I need a good 5 day run of fine weather to get the roof structure finished and the roof sheets on http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr164/Fishdejour/IMG_3225_zps72aa91a7.jpg Steve My building project - Hill House viewtopic.php?f=38&t=13537 Who you have in your life is more important than what you have Re: Hill House - far south coast 143Feb 18, 2015 1:21 pm I think you need a holiday ... well done! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Hill House - far south coast 144Feb 18, 2015 2:48 pm Great to see the progress Steve. Do you find this build is happening more quickly (when you actually find the time to work on it) as you've "done it all before" with the first pavilion?? Or does this pavilion have its own set of problems? Terry. Re: Hill House - far south coast 145Feb 18, 2015 3:20 pm Terry, yes this pavilion is feeling fairly straight forward, dare I say 'easy'. It is going together a lot quicker when I do have to chance to spend time on the tools, I do not need to reasearch how to do each step or learn a bunch of new skills or tool up for it. It is a lot smaller too, so each stage is less painful So yes a lot more straight forward, I am getting a little frustrated by my lack of time as I am getting very keen to get on with it and get it all finished. I really want it done in the next two years (in under 10 years total !!!) Yes WOW!!! What an awesome and simply amazing build I must say! Epically inspiring!! So I am brand new to this forum and just about to embark on the whole OB thing on a small block in the north east of Tassie Near St Marys. My Partner and I are really hoping to be able to take advantage of the FHBG and the FHBB being offered right now equalling about $30,000 in subsidies once the building is finished, however we are just very excited to get building and finally attempt to be more self sufficient and exit the rental spiral, no matter what incentives we can attract. The only thing is we have to get our foundations completed before the 30th of June 2015. Due to this and our very limited budget I am hoping to source someone who would be willing to donate a building plan etc that could be slightly altered to suit our site (if that is something that can be done???). We have about $15,000 to start with on this project to complete the foundations with 2 years to complete the build, and we hope to source as much free and recycled materials to build with to minimise cost and impact up until lock up stage. We are very excited to make the dwelling solar passive, as sustainable as possible and utilise all affordable eco technology as possible to keep our environmental impacts to a minimum. The block allows full north aspect and I have envisaged a pavilion style, pole and beam structure ideally with a small mezzanine for an additional bedroom space but we are expecting that it will need to be a very small footprint to make it as affordable as possible. I have designed a couple of renderings of my preferred design on sketch up however I am worried that I will not be able to afford to have professional plans produced or have the time to draft my own (if that is even allowed?). Meanwhile I have been researching the whole building process and studying the Tasmanian building code along with doing a lot of research online (hence finding this thread; Thank goodness!!) I had entertained the idea of a pole structure along with straw bale and mudbrick as a cladding option to improve thermal storage, but after talking to my partners father who was once a builder, I have been given a dose of realism in regards to timeframes and speed of the process. So it seems I might have to reduce the amount of thermal mass in the plan or possibly eliminate this feature or commit to a longer timeframe for completion which we don't have the luxury to afford either (with the inevitable need of earning more $$$ for completion of the house I expect). Anyway, to cut a long story short, I would be deeply grateful if you could offer anything at all that could help us to begin this life changing journey. I am fundamentally indebted to you as it is, for posting this exhaustive thread, detailing so much of the fantastic work you have done and the excellent process demonstration. I aim to make your project a benchmark and a guiding light, and if you were able, we would be forever gracious if you could lend your blueprint to our construction. Yours sincerely, Jaben and Heidi Re: Hill House - far south coast 147Mar 03, 2015 8:20 am I have sent you a PM Jaben and Heidi. I have some HelpXers staying for the next few months and they will begin sanding the remaining roof beams today, so stay tuned. How are you progressing ?
