Our new house build is finally getting close and I'm trying to put together a checklist of things to consider/double check before the slab is poured. We will be 'owner-building' but are fortunate enough to have a good family friend who is a builder helping us out by project managing the build. So, I'm not too worried about the actual pour being done correctly and all the technical requirements, I'm more trying to make sure that the little 'extras' we'd like to have done aren't missed, because they're not essential. At this stage, the things I've come up with that need to be considered are: - in slab heating (we're going with hydronic) - electricals (for kitchen island etc) - drainage (i'm sure i'll miss something here... ) - recess for external doors (we want to recess the sill for our bifolds and possibly sliding doors to achieve a 'flush' threshhold inside to outside - i think that's how to do it?! haha and probably need to consider drainage with this...? ) - cooktop ventilation/exhaust (we're going with a downdraft system from a kitchen island, so need ventilation piping through the slab) That's about all I can think of so far....! I'd really appreciate any comments or advice - getting things right pre-slab is obviously extremely important, so I really want to get it right!!! Thanks heaps, Adam Re: Pre-slab checklist - ADVICE PLEASE!! 2Jan 16, 2009 9:43 pm Not sure if this is what you mean, but I noticed when our builder poured our slab he had a telstra line put in... Re: Pre-slab checklist - ADVICE PLEASE!! 3Jan 17, 2009 12:32 am Something to consider if your kitchen sink is an island. Ours is almost an island with respect to the water supply pipes, so in addition to the drain under the sink, there is another pipe in the slab the same size as a drain, but it is a duct that carries the hot & cold water pipes - they go down inside the wall behind the fridge, into the duct, and pop up about 3 metres away under the sink. Thanks for the replies! HellDad: thanks for the the reminder about the island sink!! We are having both our sink and cooktop on the island, along with dishwasher...so it's definitely one area we want to make sure we get right up front seakyl: I hadn't really thought about telephone lines etc!! (I'm guessing that's what the Telstra line was...?!) But I'll make sure I look into it!! Thanks again We've had the offer of a short term tenant whilst waiting for CDC/DA home approval and demolition for our knock down rebuild.
