Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ i had to find a log that was wide enough to make the top out of, but also wanted the timber to "bend or flow" aound the back of the stainless steel flu. i left the natural bark finish on that side as below. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ On the kitchen side that had tiling from the bench up to the divider, i had the log edge cut square to match the square look of the tiles as opposed to natural look on side next to flu. sorry i didn't remove Mrs V's elephants b4 i took the pics! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ i had the remainder of the dressed timber used for the firebox top. i still have to do the doors for firebox, that will be made from jarrah i have left from those ceiling beams in earlier pics. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I also received a pm about verandahs & roof setbacks this week. i used laminated posts after sending 2 packs of 90 X90 dressed pine posts back to supplier cos only about 4 or 5 lengths were straight rest was twisted - so then used laminated posts. i like to use the right angle backed stirrups better than the ones that fit into a cut on under side of wood, cos i recon these a chance of moisture getting in those. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ this pic shows where the posts sit in relation to the gutter. i always like to take the edge of verandah out past the post so the stirrips are set wellaway from the edge. thats just my preference - no hard & fast rules & i like that finish. i will NEVER use pavers on a verander again - did it once & chased ants, mice & every other creature that can burrow under them. we have used this coloured concrete with "anti slip swirl" - easy to clean & better than floor pain cos the colour is right thru concrete, get a chip and theres no change in the colour. cheers tony Re: Our last O/Build project & still great fun!! 56Jan 30, 2011 9:22 pm Great stuff Tony! Sheoak's lovely. DW, who's a country girl, went green with envy seeing your stove and veranda. She'd love to have a backyard large enough for a chook's enclosure like yours. I felt pretty smug this arvo, 'cause I finally finished the fireplace mantle, but your pics pricked my bubble Cheers Chris My father rode a camel, I drive a car, my son flies in a jetliner, his son will ride a camel.Saudi saying Re: Our last O/Build project & still great fun!! 57Jan 30, 2011 10:39 pm Love the timber Tony and that beautiful large, tiled hearth.
