or Excavation done with concreter (same sub-contractor)? Which would be better, and the reasons why. I've noticed that you can get a "concrete pumping service" and "concreter" Can the "concrete pumping service" do everything?, for example the concreters job as well? Do they have licenses where they can do both? I want to use one contractor with as many different jobs that he is able to do (i.e. keep it all together, rather than splitting it up as I think this would be easier for me as I don't want to complicate the owner building process any more than I have to). Also, I was thinking, any large supply- of course it would be better for me to get it rather than buy it from the sub-contractor, as they obviously would include their own markups in the total price. But what about small things, for example the electrical & phone wiring inside the walls + wall plastic power outlets, Apart from the electrical wiring and power outlets, I can't think of anything else that would be small at the moment. I'll think about that later. Anyway, would it be better to buy the smaller materials from the sub-contractor, or should I just get everything from a building supplies centre whether small or large? I reckon buy as much as possible yourself. An electrician I talked to said he would prefer me to buy the power points and he'd tell me where the cheapest place to get them from was! I don't understand what you mean. If I get the excavation + demolition done together (with the same contractor) he would put a mark up on both parts, If I get different contractors to do each, they will put their mark ups on it, so I don't see the difference. Can you please explain what you mean? Thanks Re: Excavation + demolition together? + Buy supplies from subby? 4Nov 20, 2008 7:04 pm orange James Bond Demolition, Excavation and Concreting done all with seperate subbies as otherwise you will pay for one tradies markup on anothers work. What will probably actually happen is that the demolition will be done by one contractor, he will then subcontract the excavation to another contractor and put his mark up on before invoicing you. Does that help? Re: Excavation + demolition together? + Buy supplies from subby? 5Nov 20, 2008 7:14 pm Yes, thankyou, I understand now.
So are you saying that a company advertised as doing "excavations + demolitions" together (there are a lot of these around), can't really do everything themselves? I'm guessing they would probably do the demolition themselves only? Do you think it is a good idea to ask them if one person is doing everything (demolition + excavation) themselves? I'm guessing they would probably do the demolition themselves only? I'm not saying they can't. Just be aware that you might be paying for one tradies mark up on another. Many companies which advertise several trades subcontract almost everything. Re: Excavation + demolition together? + Buy supplies from subby? 7Nov 20, 2008 7:20 pm I understand now. The advertisements they show might not be exactly what you think you are getting, (i.e a single subcontractor doing both - That may, or may not be the case).
Thankyou, you explained it very well. Hmmm, I have checked your past posts and it seems that you are in NSW, not WA as I had thought. It pays to show your State in your avatar.
