Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Aug 08, 2023 10:35 am Hi, I am no structural engineer, but work in engineering. I have a concern about the Structural Engineering for my granny flat first floor. It has a 728mm cantilever. The engineering drawing has a single 5.45m long LVL. Does not look too strong to me. I attached my "suggestion". I know, more work and more hangers... Are there any structural engineers out there that can tell me if I should be concerned? Or will the original 5.45m long LVL by OK?

I think you are correct it needs to be strengthened if first floor is not exactly over the ground floor wall. I just noticed now the pictures I added to post right on top of page were wrong. I attached pictures showing "current" and my "suggested" floor joist design. My concern is that the left 5.4m LVL is too weak. It will carry whole top floor and roof. Will my suggestion be a good idea, and make it stronger?
