Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: Can someone please talk me through the plumbing/slab stage? 22May 17, 2009 10:10 pm Nomad, I understand your point but the confusion here is simple. If Harkaway are building to lock up stage then they need to BUILD to lock up stage. What I am reading here is that Harkaway is simply a kit home supplier that is supplying materials only to lock up but leaving it to the owner builder to, well, build it to lock up stage. So, the question is - Who is the builder here? From what i have read it is clearly the owner and Harkaway are simply the supplier of goods but with a bit of advice on the side. While that is possibly a good thing it is clearly confusing for the Owner Builder. For example, Building Surveyors NEVER mark out boundaries - that is the job of a Land Surveyor. Again very confusing for most Owner Builders. So, to go back to the original questions: Are plumbers and electricians likelly to knock down the marks/pegs? Yes, absolutely Also does step 1 (cut) refer to excavation of the footings? No One of the plumbing quotes I've got says: It is a condition of this quotation that the sewer drain is laid through the garage BEFORE the excavation of any footings. What exactly does this mean? Basically they want to put the drainage in before the excavation of the slab or footings occurs. This is standard and common sense. The main issue here is to confirm that regardless of the depth of the sewer main that the plumber lays the sewer deep enough to be well out of the way of any slab beams or independent footings. The ONLY way that you will ascertain depth is from the engineer design read in conjunction with the soil test. If you are confused then PM me and I will give you my phone number so we can talk this through. Builders are people too.... Thanks for your advice.
