Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Feb 27, 2022 5:39 am Hi All! I'm hoping for some advice. We are looking at building a 2-3 story steel frame home in Victoria. We are conscious of thermal conductivity in the steel frame and would like the house to be energy efficient. The two main choices are hebel and matrix. I've been given mixed information and would love any feedback or alternatives for a steel frame. CSR Hebel panels - Good thermal rating - when used with foil wrap and thermal cavity insulation methods Substantial additional cost of acrylic render Can be difficult to install if builder is unfamiliar Have heard mixed reviews on long term durability More conventional and aesthetically attractive look for future resale value James Hardie Scyon Matrix - Good thermal rating - When used with a full suite of James Hardie insulation products Easier to install (?) No need to render and can paint light or dark colours Unsure of long term durability I've also been advised that Kingspan Kooltherm k12 is the Gold standard for steelframe insulation. But CSR and James Hardie tend to design their products so that you have to use the full system (smart). No options seem to be good for noise insulation on a steel frame either. Any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated 👍 🙂 Re: Steelframe home cladding - Hebel Panel or Scyon Matrix 2Feb 27, 2022 8:50 am Hey jo_buildandreno Welcome to the forum LOL, I love it when they promote the full treatment, coupled with thermal, energy, gold standard, Net zero, typical Marketing BS, etc, etc. Start looking at the long term structural limitations of some these products, thermal, movement, cracking, strength, bending, because maintenance and repairs turns out to be a night mare and looks cr@p particularly on a flexible waffle slabs. That's a great point I hadn't considered the slabs effect on the durability! 👌 Re: Steelframe home cladding - Hebel Panel or Scyon Matrix 4Feb 27, 2022 9:52 am jo_buildandreno Thanks! That's a great point I hadn't considered the slabs effect on the durability! 👌 The majority don't look past fake artistic renderings and crafted words, perfect for insta and FB marketing. Often ignored are trusted engineering data/proofs & secondary effects Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs I was looking at different options for a fence for my build and Hebel PowerFence seemed like a good option (one of the criteria was a solid wall look). However, I don't… 0 5914 1 6648 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6242 |
