My aim is to save money and have a little more control over the final fit out of the house. Not interested in the construction side of things.
I don't work full time and don't require finance to build the home, so have the time and money to handle the job. There's also no rush for me to leave my existing home, so getting things done quickly isn't a priority over getting them done properly.
I've built 3x homes before (1x with custom builder, 2x with volume builders) so have a little experience with what's required. I'd also be able to hire some trades at "mates rates" (electrician/data cabling) and do some work myself (painting, flat pack kitchen) that I've done before in renovations, to save money.
- Has anyone done this?
- Would you recommend it to others?
- Are builders generally open to this idea?
- Would I still need to be an owner builder (VIC) to do this?
- Is there decent money savings to be had completing a house this way?
