Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jan 25, 2010 4:06 pm Just wondering how long has it taken for you to build your home, for those who have nearly finished. I need some inspiration that we will live in our house...eventually... Re: how long oh how long to finish your build 3Jan 25, 2010 6:59 pm Started design in about March. Started building in July. Due to move in next week. I did delay the project by a week or two due to some slow decision making though And the Christmas break delayed it also. When it starts, as long as you see progress, time will fly. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: how long oh how long to finish your build 4Jan 26, 2010 1:35 am im in envy of most people here finishing so quick we started in june 2008 and still going ho hum if we had all the money before we started then we would have taken 6-8 months gl i wish u well stay safe happy building Re: how long oh how long to finish your build 5Jan 26, 2010 11:14 am Hi farmerswife, this is a farmerswifes husband responding, & yep when ur farming its not just getting the house finished - has to fit in with all others bits of life - that said i've o/bed a few times, my worst effort was while i was working & building & u didn't have to have occupancy certificate - we lived in the house & i "slowly" finished things off - warning "slowly" was 8 years!!!!! i was putting in skirting boards the week b4 we moved out when we sold the place!!!!! this time i'm almost retired, far more time devoted to building & took 17months with me doing quite a lot of the fiddly stuff. IMO it is VERY important that u write up a full list of everything u think has to be done to be completed - put that into order of work, and then systematically finish the items & mark them off - DONT whipe them out - leave them there with a line thru - gives u a sence of achievement at what u get done rather than thinking ur never making progress keep happy - don't get frustrated its really worth it in finish - oneday cheers tony Re: how long oh how long to finish your build 6Jan 26, 2010 11:35 am I hope you have more luck than we are having. 17/08/2009 - Slab poured 5 months later - still waiting for all the steel frame bits to arrive Good luck farmerswife!!!! Re: how long oh how long to finish your build 7Jan 26, 2010 4:05 pm We've had quite a good run with our builder. Signed contracts early July. Land titled early Sep. Site start mid Oct. 270 days in our contract... we're up to day 103 today (Australia Day)... we even have tradies on site today working on the plaster. Our SS says we may have handover end March (better than mid July as per our full contract timeframe). I hope you start to have a good run on your build Re: how long oh how long to finish your build 8Jan 31, 2010 8:46 pm Dear Farmerswife We have been living in our beautiful OB home for the past 8 & a half months...old house demo'd in July 08, slab poured in Sept 08, moved in May 09.
