Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Dec 20, 2016 5:27 pm I'd love to hear about your experience with owner builder insurance. I'm talking about the construction insurance you need during the build, not the warranty cover you get later (or don't get at all depending on what state you're in). Has anything gone wrong with your project? and how did the claim process go for you? It blocked my 200mm pvc pipe. It wasn't solid concrete but hard enough to block it. It blocked a few metres of the pipe. I asked them to fix it, not sure what they did but they broke a small section of the top of the pipe. I think they tried to unblock it with a metal pipe or reo. I asked them to get a drain cleaner to clear out the concrete with a high pressure water hose, and just do a quick fix of the pipe since the crack is at the top of the pipe it doesn't have to be 100% water tight, i.e. insert a smaller piece of PVC pipe with silicone to hold it in place. They ignored me. So I contacted FD Beck and they got a loss adjuster from QBE to come out. QBE appointed another company to handle the repairs. In the end, they got a drain cleaner to clear the blockage and a pipe reliner to fix the pipe properly. Service was fantastic and excess was $500. I got a call from the concreters asking why is there a $5k+ claim against them. I told them because they didn't want to fix it themselves. I'm not sure if they paid, it would be pretty hard for QBE to win in court as there's no hard evidence they poured the concrete slurry down the drain.
