The back section will have large windows facing north as we hope to achieve as much passive solar gain in winter as possible. The back section (new section) will all be double glazed and we can close this area off from the front (old) section of the house. I know that we will have to build eaves over the north facing windows but I am unsure how far out they need to protrude to stop the sun from hitting the windows during the summer but still allow it in during the winter.
