Planning a new house build soon, and my thought was to run extra power cabling in house to create different circuits for low/medium/high draw appliances, with all separately breakered at the meter board. Then over time add more solar/battery and as each circuit load proved sustainable pull their breaker and run that circuit from off grid solar/battery (until whole house could be off grid). Rather than trying to afford it all up front. Viable or crazy? Re: Solar battery house question 2Apr 14, 2018 10:06 am One of my friends is off the grid (as they live in whoop whoop) and they in no means have a big system, enough to run general appliances etc. It was well over 40k + diesel backup generator. (not including a separate dwelling to contain battery banks etc) Cost of fixing parts can be expensive. They had to wait over a week for a part from Germany which was 10k alone..... (limited to the gene being used) I guess it depends on budget and if you're rural or metro. Re: Solar battery house question 3Apr 14, 2018 10:14 am Mm true. We're about an hour from Newcastle. Most of the solar battery I'm talking will be setup/designed by me, like my current solar battery proof of concept setup (2 panels, car batteries, enough to power a shed). I'd envisaged mostly using small, cheap/easy to replace inverters etc for most circuits, and having multiple separate small solar/battery setup for the different house circuits (so at least if something cr4ps it I've got some power). What can I say, I'm a techie who likes to tinker, as my current old miners cottage smart home can attest. I looked into it a few years ago and my conclusion was to just build a carport that will support panels and get a system installed separately. The company I looked at had… 1 6481 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9960 I would say both styles you have pictured are steel.
