Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Aug 24, 2015 2:53 pm Hi All Are you interested in installing battery technology in your home? I am undertaking research at the University of Queensland which is aimed at developing a model to optimally integrate solar power with battery storage in residential households. One element of my work involves better understanding what may drive consumers to install solar with battery storage in their homes. This forum is the perfect place to check in with people thinking about installing new technologies as part of their renovations or new builds! The survey is for Queensland residents. It takes 10 – 20 minutes to complete. If you have a few spare minutes, I’d be really grateful if you could have a crack at the survey (also you get a shot at a $50 gift card). The link is: http://solarandstorage.cloudssi.com/login.html In particular, the survey is considering what could drive mass market uptake of household battery storage and what is the likely form and function of future systems – this means some components of the survey reflect possible scenarios/prices in future years. If I can get enough people to complete the survey, I will be able to generate a novel data set that will help develop a systems integration model which I hope will get us one step closer to a more resilient, low emission future. Thanks for your help! This is what I was always led to believe. Batteries also have a shelf life so this needs to be factored when considering a economical as well as environmental cost. At this point the cost to maintain a house with PC's, TV's, fridges and other white goods would be too costly Re: Qld solar & storage survey...win a gift card 3Aug 24, 2015 8:16 pm Gunna The main issue with battery backups is the requirement for deep cell batteries and you cannot let them fall under 50% of charge. The newer ones, such a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4 ) can be taken well below that, although it is not recommended to do so. Old lead acid batteries should not be taken lower than 80% of charge. Across a number of different forums and through other networks I have had a stellar response which will allow me to generate what I hope to be some very significant results. I will be keeping the link active and the survey open until this Sunday if anybody is still interested in filling it out. Thanks again!!
