Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Jun 11, 2015 8:03 pm Hey guys, Just looking for some peoples recommendations/suggestions for some home solar companies in Melbourne (that service west/north west). I have been on the phone with a couple of companies today, after entering my details into some solar choice websites. Though i always like word of mouth/personal recommendations more. Was originally thinking about a 5kw system, though i think maybe we go a 4kw system and make sure its top quality stuff. only a 25sqm single story house, with 2 of us in it, but i want to make sure its future proofed! any recommendations would be greatly appreciated Re: Solar power recommendations - Melbourne 2Jun 11, 2015 10:52 pm You need to do the maths first. If you have a 4-5 kw system, you really need to be using the power during the day, not supplying it to the power company for a pittance and then paying retail price for power during the evening. Storing excess power during the day for night time use is the future and the new Powerwall storage system from Tesla should interest you. The Powerwall also has its own inverter and it would be wise to acquaint yourself with such recent developments and factor them against the current economics. Tesla have started selling the Powerwall units but there already is a long waiting list. There is a lot of information available on the net and You Tube and the future completion of their $5b zero net energy gigafactory should satisfy demand and lower costs. To this end, Tesla has already doubled the Powerwall energy rating without raising prices. http://www.computerworld.com/article/29 ... -same.html The Alternative Technology Association (ATA) forums has a thread discussion about the Powerwall that might interest you. http://www.ata.org.au/forums/topic/30003 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Solar power recommendations - Melbourne 3Jun 12, 2015 9:53 am If you are ever considering either going hybrid or off-grid at some much later stage, I would be considering the largest grid feed system you can afford. Push all your usage during day time and minimise your night time usage. Stay clear of companies like TVS, Modern, and others of their ilk, as you are quite likely to regret it later on. I got a Kaco inverter in my system, due to my future plans to eventually go off grid in years to come, as they can be controlled via a Selectronics SP system very easily. I got my system from Infinity Solar, via their Tweed Heads office. This is the second house I have used them for solar PV. If you do end up buying from them, if you give them my name (Brendan Pratt) as your referrer I can get a Myer gift card for it. Most importanly for you, do your research ! Re: Solar power recommendations - Melbourne 4Jun 12, 2015 5:21 pm SaveH2O Storing excess power during the day for night time use is the future So I've been told! however, have also been told the technology is still very new, and the prices of batteries are ridiculous. most people have just suggested making sure the inverter is upgradable for battery storage in a couple of years once the technology gets better and prices come down Re: Solar power recommendations - Melbourne 5Jun 12, 2015 5:25 pm That's why I mentioned the inverter that I have, the Kaco inverters. They can be controlled by the Selectronics SP Pro when you go hybrid or fully offgrid. Apparently you can also use SMA inverters with the SP Pro, but they don't work together as well.
