Browse Forums Eco Living 1 May 01, 2015 4:15 pm Hi We are looking into solar powered pumps for a water bore. The water table is only about 6-10m down so it doesn't need to be very big at all. Has anyone got any recommendations for these and how do they normally get setup (with a header tank?)? We are in a rural area about 2000m2 block. Thanks Re: Solar powered water bore 2May 01, 2015 11:09 pm We use a solar powered pump on our bore. Ours is 28m deep. We use a Grundfos submersible pump connected to 400W of solar panels on a tracker. The pump will also run from a 240Vac source such as a generator. We pump to storage tanks located at the point of use, most often up on a hill to then gravity feed to the house or stock trough or for fire fighting use etc. The most distant tank is about 3km from the bore. The pump is switched manually when required. Fantastic system, far far better then the windmills and diesel pumps we used to use. You will need to work out your usage requirements and size the system to suit. Pump to a header tank that will hold at least a couple of weeks use. there should be ss cable so you can pull up bore pump for service 1 3168 I looked into it a few years ago and my conclusion was to just build a carport that will support panels and get a system installed separately.
