Browse Forums Eco Living 1 May 01, 2015 3:32 pm Hi All I am in SW WA and am keen to build a solar passive energy saving house. I would like to build out a product like a SIP to hopefully reduce the cost of the build. I have been in contact with MagROC in SA and superior walls. I am trying to find out a rough cost and superior have got back with 69m2 + gst, which I think was in another thread, and I think this is a good price when I compare to double brick which I think works out to be around $280 dollar m2 after it is insulated, plastered etc. MagROC are quick to reply to my emails but are still not giving me a cost per m2. Has anyone built with MgO SIPs previously and what was there experience? Do you save money with the build? Are they easy to work with and do the panel come pre-cut as described? Is it easy to get windows and doors installed? Are there any issues with roof framing? Is it easy to apply the texture coat to the exterior? Any feedback would be appreciated. cheers Re: MgO SIPS - Has anyone built with these, feedback please 2May 12, 2015 10:04 pm Hi There We recently completed an extension with MgO Boards. However, they don't have the insulated panel. See link - http://www.ubiq.com.au/aboutus.html We used this product for the walls, external cladding, eve sheets and subfloor. A render was applied to some of the boards that were not clad and the cladding was painted with an exterior paint. Walls were then insulated. We used this product as we are in a Flame Zone and these boards have certification for this BAL rating. we were happy with the product. Good luck. Re: MgO SIPS - Has anyone built with these, feedback please 3May 12, 2015 10:58 pm There's a thread here by efficientdesign about MgO SIPS. He's also posted, as well as others, on the ata.org.au forums. Some interesting reading over there. Like dolphinblu, I'll be using MgO, but only as cladding.
