Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Nov 08, 2014 6:21 pm hi guys, need your opinion on this. i recently ordered EarthWool R2.7 SHD for external walls and R2.0 (Acoustic version - blue packaging) for internal walls. this insulation company by mistake delivered R2.0 (external wall version - yellow packaging) instead of R 2.0 (acoustic version - blue packaging). i have two options now, i.e. Option 1: return R2.0 (external wall version - yellow packaging) and pick R2.0 (acoustic version - blue packaging). Option 2: just user R 2.0 (external wall version - yellow packaging) in internal walls for acoustic purpose. i'm not sure if with Option 2, external wall version will serve acoustic purpose or not? i have looked at their website but there is no affirmative answer on this. btw external wall version is more expensive than acoustic version. link to external wall version: http://www.knaufinsulation.com.au/en-au ... batts.aspx link to internal walls - acoustic versions: http://www.knaufinsulation.com.au/en-au ... batts.aspx Re: EarthWool R2.0 external walls will work internal walls? 3Nov 09, 2014 9:00 pm Thanks mate, I'm thinking same here. Will call them tomorrow to find out how quickly they can organize replacement. For internal walls acoustic R2.0 is good enough or should I ask them for higher R rating? Re: EarthWool R2.0 external walls will work internal walls? 4Nov 13, 2014 10:18 am For internal walls you dont even need a R rating, so dont worry about it. The acoustic performance is what matters in your case. Just remember to upgrade to solid core door because the sound will leak at your weakest link. Re: EarthWool R2.0 external walls will work internal walls? 5Nov 14, 2014 7:07 am they have R2.0HD, R2.5HD, and R2.7SHD in acoustic wall insulation. Thanks for pointing out solid doors. we went with standard builder doors, as we are planning to replace them in a year time with our choice of solid doors. Re: EarthWool R2.0 external walls will work internal walls? 6Nov 14, 2014 7:39 am Just make sure that the higher rated ones can fit inside a 90mm stud frame. R 2.5 is the highest you can go for normal batts but they tend to bulge a bit and some builders refuse to use them - R 2.0 is the highest they will install. Stewie Re: EarthWool R2.0 external walls will work internal walls? 7Nov 14, 2014 7:56 am thanks for heads up, been sold R 2.7 SDH for theatre room. do you think it wont fit in 90mm stud frame? i'm going to replace R 2.0 external walls with acoustic R 2.0 today. Re: EarthWool R2.0 external walls will work internal walls? 8Nov 14, 2014 9:27 am I'd just check their specs and if unsure talk to either their head office or a distributor/installer. There are a lot of different insulation products out there esp glass/wool batts. The higher the R rating the denser they seem to be but some still compress better than others to fit a 90mm stud space. YMMV as they say depending on which product you go for. Stewie Re: EarthWool R2.0 external walls will work internal walls? 9Nov 14, 2014 11:47 am thanks Stewie, just checked with supplier and they assured that R2.7 SHD will fit 90mm stud frame. will see how it will on insulation day. Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5403 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7934 3 10199 |
