Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Oct 30, 2014 3:30 pm After many years of reports of Blue Scope Water slimline water tanks popping rivets and failing, Blue Scope Water has finally announced a Product Safety Recall for tanks manufactured in NSW and QLD over a 2 ½ year period. See link at bottom. The last two of the three photos they have used show the tanks bulging. They are also sub standard installations but I guess that is another story. http://www.bluescopesteel.com.au/tools- ... ater-tanks 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Blue Scope Water slimline water tank recall 2Oct 30, 2014 5:26 pm Well that's rather big embarrassment for them, isn't it ? Pity they don't give people some information on properly installing the tanks, including the plumbing of them, but I guess they sooner be able to blame the end user and get out of any warranty claims. Re: Blue Scope Water slimline water tank recall 3Oct 30, 2014 6:23 pm Maybe they are required to show identifying photos when there is a recall...I don't know. A bit hard to tell how high the first tank's slatted wooden base is. The bottom of the second tank looks like it has separated from the tank's wall but I think that it's only dirt. Notice how low the pump draw outlets are fitted? This vacuums sediment off the tank's floor that can damage the pump and foul cisterns and washing machine filters. Most urban tanks are fitted like this, it is sub standard but still compliant. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: Blue Scope Water slimline water tank recall 4Oct 30, 2014 6:50 pm There are many products recalled every year but the average consumer rarely hears of more than a few items. The site that I have linked below allows quick access to the various categories of recalled consumer goods. Each category has its own sub categories, see second link. http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index ... mId/952401 http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index ... mId/952902 The link below lists all products recalled over the last 30 days. http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index ... mId/952434 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Blue Scope Water slimline water tank recall 5Oct 31, 2014 9:50 am The recalled tanks were last made at the end of 2006, 8 years ago. Previously, customers with failed tanks were offered a pro rata refund but the warranty was only 10 years, very poor for a stainless steel tank. Not all faulty products are shown on the Govt recall site. Last year, water in some Tasmanian stainless steel tanks were found to have high lead levels and they never appeared on the Govt recall site but there was a public health warning issued and other publicity. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-03-15/l ... ks/4576204 http://www.examiner.com.au/story/133518 ... ter-tanks/ http://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/peh/alerts/p ... ater_tanks http://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/__data/asset ... d_Lead.pdf 3in1 Supadiverta. I think that is how the tanks are supplied, as in the customer says "I want it this end", and they manufacture it down that end, but they never ask or tell you what height above the bottom. On our old home, the poly tank we got had the outlet possibly 200mm above the bottom of the tank, and their catalog also offered a internal hose with float on it to suck water well off the bottom. I wonder if poly tanks can not have a tap any lower than this for structural purposes ? Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Blue Scope Water slimline water tank recall 7Oct 31, 2014 8:51 pm bpratt I wonder if poly tanks can not have a tap any lower than this for structural purposes? Most if not all poly tanks are molded thicker at the bottom for this purpose but incredibly enough, some tanks are now molded with (sometimes) very low female threaded cavities and drilling another hole elsewhere can sometimes void the warranty. The photo I have linked is off another thread and it shows a molded threaded wall section but this one is molded at a reasonable height, albeit the fitting is very small (20 mm). Some tanks have brass fittings molded into the tank's wall. The owner posted that the tank was full of water but water wasn't going to the pump, the photo shows what he found when he undid the valve! The tank was installed by a plumber at a new home, obviously someone was needed to tell the plumber that the plug needed to be drilled out before fitting the ball valve!
