Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Dec 26, 2016 10:36 am The impact of current washing machines on marine life and the food chain is discussed in depth in the linked video. The washing machine connection starts after the 11 minute mark but it is important to watch the entire video for a full understanding of this major environmental problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpGt5L3GC7o And to further grasp an understanding of the enormity of the problems caused by plastics in our oceans... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwTDvqaqPlM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Co43TXJXryI Our planet thanks you for your time. 3in1 Supadiverta. Scary though. Our continued use of plastics of all descriptions and chemicals is very sad when we know that there are viable alternatives. We should also take a cue from people of Japan who reuses/recycles wastewater of bathroom sinks & flush pipes. Re: Washing machines and environmental vandalism 7Sep 18, 2020 10:22 am What are the implications of sending laundry grey water out to fruit tree mulch basins? Can these particles be captured by filters? Re: Washing machines and environmental vandalism 8Sep 18, 2020 11:08 am Grey water needs to be used fairly quickly as it can't be stored for more than 24 hours. You also need to pay attention to the laundry detergent composition before using it on the garden and it is best to only use the final rinse. It would require a very fine filter to capture plastic fibres. Of interest, micro plastics have recently been found in 100% of human organs tested in 47 deceased persons. We currently manually collect buckets each was cycle and run them out to a reed bed or straight to the fruit trees. We use eco store detergent and add nutrients to the trees periodically. We collect water from the entire wash cycle. The trees have been doing well using this process but I never considered fibres.
