Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Mar 01, 2012 6:56 pm I was wondering if anyone could give any advice on their experiences with either of the above hot water units? The Enviro is a bit cheaper than the Smartstart but saves gas whereas the Smartstart saves water. There doesn't seem to be any unit that saves both water and gas! Re: Rinnai Smartstart or Rinnai Enviro 2Mar 01, 2012 7:25 pm Hi Liliana, No experience with either model yet but we are putting the enviro model into our new build. Our decision was partly to do with the cost but also we are using water tanks for the laundry, a toilet and gardens so we are hoping our water usage will be reasonably low and therefore the gas saving was probably a higher priority for us. Also, you have to hit the preheat function on the smartstart and wait 2 minutes before turning on the tap - that would annoy me when doing the dishes or filling the bath. Good luck. I hope someone can help you more. Re: Rinnai Smartstart or Rinnai Enviro 3Mar 02, 2012 7:02 am Hi Rocketship, Thanks for the reply. You've made a good point. We will have a rainwater tank plumbed to the garden and we have to plumb the estate's recycled water to the toilets, even though it is not available yet. We have room for two more watertanks which we can put in down the track. At the moment gas does cost more than water (though maybe not forever!) and gas is a non-renewable resource so maybe the Enviro would be the better option. Has anybody already installed one? |
