Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Aug 13, 2011 10:10 pm Hi all, first post, so hope I'm in the right forum. We are about to embark on a new build on 5 acres in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Basic plan is to go as eco-friendly as the budget allows - solar HWS, minimal site disturbance, water re-use, heavily insulated etc My first question is not specifically eco-focused, although it is with view to generally reduce our impact. We hope to build an attached dual occupancy as future proofing for our kids as well as ageing parents on both sides. Our council requires that any dual occupancy meet AS4299 Adaptable Housing – Class C requirements - which is no problem, except I can't find a description of the specific requirements of the standards without having to purchase a copy of the standards themselves. Can anyone please point me in the right direction to get a (free) copy of the construction standards required to meet AS 4299 Adaptable Housing – Class C? I expect this to be the first of many posts, so look forward to exchanging views as our journey progresses. Cheers, Hodgie. Re: Adaptable Housing Class C requirements - AS4299? 2Aug 25, 2011 5:54 pm Building standards are done through SAI Global, they sure are expensive. Free copies of the standards are not available. A good introduction to Adaptable Housing is set out at http://www.yourhome.gov.au/technical/fs32.html. I don't know where you're based, but your university library might have the standard. I see the Sydney University one does. You could maybe walk in and have a look at it. Good luck, and welcome.
