I've just shot off a big long list of "Can we ...?" questions to a Mcon person we have been talking to, including our list of items from their "shades of green" range: -- Eco choice paint -- Windows and door seals -- Double glazing -- Better insulation batts -- Timber window and door frames -- Solar hot water system -- Rain water harvesting -- Grey water system It will be interesting to hear what they come back with in terms of specs and prices. By the sounds of it wood is the best they can do for window frames, no thermally broken aluminium. And the under-slab water storage sounds interesting although my wife doesn't like the idea of living on top of water. Re: M3tricon goes green 4Nov 15, 2008 9:49 am From memory.. (I've been trying to forget... ) these are the answers we got from our CSC , and I'm not kidding.
-- Eco choice paint 3k for approx 36 sq -- Windows and door seals "you won't need them" -- Double glazing This worked out to somewhere between 15 and 20k not including sliding doors. M charge to upgrade to awning, then another charge to upgrade to double glazed. Buy comparison I'm looking at around 11k including sliding doors with my current builder. -- Better insulation batts Their standard insulation is actually pretty good. R2 for walls, R4 for roof so we didn't upgrade. -- Timber window and door frames Don't know -- Solar hot water system included in base price from memory. -- Rain water harvesting $3 800 for 2000lt tank connected to toilets for flushing -- Grey water system "You don't need that for your house" Yep that was her serious answer. Hope this help, Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: M3tricon goes green 5Nov 15, 2008 10:01 am joles From memory.. They sprinkle the full privce around for that so it's hard to get the full price. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: M3tricon goes green 7Nov 15, 2008 10:14 am Yeah I thought it might come out expensive but you never know until you ask.
The house is expensive enough as it is, and somehow mysteriously went up $6k in the guff they gave out at an info night re our estate the other night.. but it's ok, we'll give you 1k discount if you sign up after coming to the info night . . Re: M3tricon goes green 8Nov 18, 2008 9:42 am Got back a few answers...
Quote: -- Eco choice paint, yes possible , waiting for supplier response -- Windows and door seals, it is standard, we are using enviroseal -- Double glazing $1200 -- Better insulation batts (are there different grades? prices for different grades?)we are using R2.5 for walls and R4.5 for ceilings -- Timber window and door frames, no problem, around $ 200 (with Sikkens stain finish) per window and $ 1300 for a sliding door -- Solar hot water system, standard in the house -- Rain water harvesting (but we would prefer conventional tank, not under-slab) $ 3780 for a 2250 litres, including pump -- Grey water system, interested in pricing for both options, diversion and treatment Provide second plumbing rough-in to collect greywater from bath, showers, basins and laundry trough including diverter valve for future use by owner after handover. $1640 I reckon they must have made a mistake on the double glazing pricing!? Insulation and hot water, not sure why they list them on the "green choices" web page when they are standard anyway?? Edit to add, ok, he clarified, $1200 for laminated 6.38 mm single glazing. Real double glazing would be $120-150 per window. Re: M3tricon goes green 11Nov 18, 2008 9:49 am Russell, double check that, it's not right I can assure you. They charge $80 per window to go to awning. $160 per window if it is big and has two openings. Then double glazing on top of that.... You are being misled..... he hasn't factored in going to awning as well...
They do this with double glazing.... be very vareful. If you want more about how they "handle" this issue. PM me. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: M3tricon goes green 12Nov 18, 2008 10:00 am PM sent .
Yep I must say I don't have a good feeling from them so far. The non-answers to my repeated questioning of why the base price is suddenly $6k greater than previously listed reminded me of a politician in a difficult interview. Re: M3tricon goes green 13May 01, 2009 1:08 pm We just got quoted the following from M: Double glazing (took 3 attempts to actually get a price on this) : $37k upgrade wall from foil to 1.5: $2.5k solar hot water: $2.8k PV solar: asked but never had a response Tank: upgrade to 10,000L : Asked but never had a response Built Liberty 42 - Handover 26th Feb 2010 forum thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17243 Re: M3tricon goes green 14May 01, 2009 2:47 pm Nightshade We just got quoted the following from M: Double glazing (took 3 attempts to actually get a price on this) : $37k Goodness... I reckon they don't want to do it... I don't know your house size or if this price is just the upgrade, but I would be surprised if our price would be half... We made a few window changes: - Sliders to outdoor room are now stacker doors - 2 vertical windows in living are now a single small horizontal - Door in bedroom 1 is now a similar sized slider. Somehow don't think we can take windows out of contact as they are part of the house? No they won't let you take them out of the contract.... their upgrade price really says they don't want to do the double glazed windows... their supplier is a low cost supplier... Tel. 1800 326 326 Re: ** goes green 19Dec 01, 2011 6:59 pm Clearly it's a case by case proposition from builders. We're looking at around $6,000 for double glazing. Our current quote from M in Victoria for double glazing all windows is around $3,000 for all windows, plus around $3,000 for all sliding doors in a 26 square house (Baxter). This includes a number of increased window and sliding door sizes that we have specified. M use Southern Star Windows. Caveats and details: - Most of the windows remain sliding windows, which I understand do not generally seal well. Awning windows would be upgrades again. We can't have it all. - We have up-sized a number of our sliding doors, which I believe has added about 1-1,500 to the price. The sales representative had initially estimated $5,000 extra for a standard window and door plan in double glazing. He's been pretty spot on. - Yes, they are still aluminium windows, and they are not thermally separated, just 'thermally improved' which I understand means very little. The window supplier isn't very inventive with this stuff! I can only obtain WERS ratings for the aluminium sliding doors used: 100 series standard sliding door: 0.5 cooling star, 2.5 heating stars, UW 6.7, SHG 0.71, TVW 0.74 and Air Inf. 2.47. Our $6,000 will go towards getting us: Upgraded 200 series Aluminium sliding door, double glazed (4/8/4 I assume but don't know): 2 cooling starts, 4 heating stars, UW 4.1, SHG 0.62, TVW 0.66 and Air Infiltration 2.47 We will delete double glazing in the laundry sliding door to obtain a $600 saving. To my calculations it's unlikely we will save the investment for double glazing back in energy bills, but the comfort and reduced environmental impact make it worthwhile for us. I hope this info helps. |
