Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Jan 28, 2011 2:29 pm We need to decide what hot water unit to put into our new house. On our contract it had a Rheem instant gas one but after speaking to a few people they are quiet costly to run There is no natural gas where we are. I just spoke to the builder he said they do 50% of homes with heat pump so that is an option. There was another gas one he mentioned it costs just a bit more than the heat pump continuous gas or something I can't quite remember. So anyone out there who actually knows what they are talking about because I don't. What sort of unit should we be looking at??? Re: Hot water system 2Jan 28, 2011 4:00 pm Have you considered solar? A lot of new homes have gas boosted solar hot water systems as they assist to reach the 5 star (or more) energy rating standards. However they do also require you to have gas. My house has one of those units; I've not had any issues with the cost and I always have plenty of hot water (a long shower is one of life's few luxuries I think!) Maybe (and I'm certainly not an expert) you could get an electrical boosted solar unit? Re: Hot water system 4Feb 01, 2011 6:41 am We have no mains gas here, and we ended up with a 327L Siddon Solarstream heat pump unit. We are in SA and the research we did indicated that we were better off overall going that way than with electric boost solar (it will depend on where in Aus you live). We chose that unit as it has a stainless steel tank and the tank is separate from the compressor unit (we have the tank inside an alcove in the garage and the compressor outside). We have been happily running it on off-peak electricity (then again, it is summer so evening temps are quite high compared to winter, and we don't know yet how it will go in winter if it only kicks in at 11pm). Re: Hot water system 5Feb 02, 2011 10:25 am Hi Hyper, My Name is Rachel from Siddons Solarstream, I monitor websites as these to ensure our customers are happy with the Siddons System. Firstly congratulations on your recent purchase of one of our units. Running the 327L on off peak is a great solution to reduce your carbon emissions whilst saving you a lot of money. Especially with the way electricity is predicted to rise dramatically in costs in the near future. You should not have any problems running your unit on off peak during the colder months, as our units will operate in temperatures as low as -5 degrees and has an electronic controller which automatically de-ices the compressor when required. Should you have any issues with your Siddons System, please do not hesitate to contact me at Rachel@siddonssolarstream.com I will be happy to help ensure you enjoy perfect hot water from a Siddons for many years to come, night and day. Rachel the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 14049 I’d go heat pump, efficient and you can have a large storage tank so you don’t run out. If the house is big it can take a while for the water to run hot. I was lucky… 1 346 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black. The problem is how close can I build to the gas hot water unit? Will I be able to build around it and be… 0 20230 |
