Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Jan 20, 2011 8:40 pm Sorry if this isn't in the right section. I don't know much about anything really so I ask the question. What sort of light fittings would I be looking at for inside our new house that look good but are also energy efficient? Is there such thing as energy efficient down lights? Ta Re: Internal light fittings 2Jan 20, 2011 8:54 pm Mrs P Is there such thing as energy efficient down lights? Compact flourescent lamps or CFLs are an energy efficient method of lighting compared to incandescent and halogen globes, LED lamps are more efficient again, give it a couple of years and they should be cheaper to purchase. Re: Internal light fittings 3Jan 24, 2011 9:07 pm Hi, The house I am building I ended up removing all the downlights from the house (only one low voltage downlight was included in each room). It was going to cost a fortune to add all the additional downlights, and in the end I decided I didn't want to have a lot of gaps in my insulation (due to the 20cm gap that must be around downlights). I ended up going for fans with fluorescent lights in them in the main living areas (ie meals, family and living rooms) as I don't have any cooling in the home. I also went for fluorescent lighting for the hallway areas and the kitchen. My lights I just put in layby on Saturday from Beacon Lighting during the stocktake sale and they allowed me to have a longer layby of 3 months as my home hasn't started yet. If you check out the website they have some energy efficient lights. Good luck! Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Internal light fittings 5Jan 25, 2011 11:49 am One downlight per room is ridiculous. Particularly for the kitchen area where light is critical.... You have to love the bonus promotions, where the inclusion is "low voltage downlights to living areas". They certainly don't mention in the advertising that it is only one downlight that they provide. We installed six into your living room which is a decent size. The lights have really made an impact on the room and the rest of our house and their light is very bright. Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5402 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7921 3 10199 |
