Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Nov 05, 2010 1:18 am Hi, Just got 3kW inverter installed. Looking at solar panels, so an excellent 300W SOLAR PANEL http://www.todae.com.au/Products/solarp ... olarpanel/ Am I aming too high? If we get a 300W panel does it mean I have to get fewer panels? Or am I better of getting 6*130W Re: Whats your Solar Panel W Rating? 2Nov 05, 2010 8:36 am Yes it does mean less panels. They might be slightly bigger but not massively. we were looking at ~3kw approx of panels and the amount of panels varied between i think 16 and 12 depending on the kW PV chosen. Keep fingers crossed for us as we are going to see if we can have a 4kW inverter and add the additional panels to go from a 2.9 to 4 kW system later on. Application is in the post now. All depend on if the power company will allow it now. Re: Whats your Solar Panel W Rating? 4Nov 06, 2010 11:21 am costs depend on the pv's used and the inverters. we are looking at getting schott pv's and a sma ( sunnyboy) inverter. All the variations from different suppliers/installers we looked at we considered the same inverter. We liked the reviews and good things heard about it although originally I was keen to get an aurora inverter. 1st person we weren't too keen on the sales person but liked the system combo. Just got frustrated having a sales person here who wasn't going to get on the roof and needed the engineers to fully check it out to give us actual specifics of how many panels we could fit etc. he was fine on the system details just not the specifics for our roof. So that was annoying. So that would have been the sma inverter( sunnyboy) and suntech pvs I was a bit sold on this combination at first. The the 2nd guy came out. He was an engineer and was living fully "off the grid" on property so really knew his system. He actually got on the roof. Checked everything else out just as thoroughly. You could see just how passionate he was about it all. Only uses the most expensive gear for PV's. we thought oh no. it will be exxy. he really impressed us but we thought it was out of our price range. 3rd guy. better than the first guy but I didn't know anything about the brand of pv's. These were bigger. We would have needed less. Very tempting as we are now looking at having them across the front of the house. Not what we really originally wanted. He was keen on his own companies chosen inverter but would do the SMA one too. In the end we decided to go for the 2nd guy. His quote was about 400-500 more than the first guys guide price. But he knew what he was talking about solidly. was able to give us a definite idea of exactly what we could have panel wise on our roof. no bull.... After recs sold at current price with 2.9 kW of pV and a 4 kW sma inverter ( the new model) $13,020 including the cost for the Power Company charges of $66 (reprogramming fee) and $195 (metering cost for single phase) if it needs to be done. Re: Whats your Solar Panel W Rating? 6Nov 07, 2010 9:42 pm hmm 70 to 80W? I think the standard panel is around 170- 185 kW these days 10 years ago was a different software than we use now. it has had a lot of changes over the past years.
