Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Oct 28, 2010 11:55 pm Once again we have the wonderful NSW Labor Government giving us policy failure. They have decided to reduce the solar or wind electricity feed in rate from 0.60 cents a KWh to 0.20. Why, because they under estimated the exploding demand. Even as the policy is being reversed they are claiming but we had the most generous system in Australia. You think it might have crossed their minds before offering the gross feed in rate to wait and see the demand on net feed in rates. Now they have, I think the worst. I would imagine if you are already on the higher rate it would stay, no idea for how long. They maybe inept, hopeless and incompetent but at least they are consistent. Cheers Pulpo Re: NSW solar feed in rates coming crashing down. 2Oct 29, 2010 7:06 am It has only ever been 20 cents in Tasmania. You are lucky to have the 60 cents for so long. I think all governments will eventually go down this road. Unfair, but what can you do...I will still have solar panels and be saving money. That's really the question. That's why the government has probably been pressured by these companies to remove the rebates, not because government couldn't afford them, after all it is our money they are giving out. Carolyn Carolyn Re: NSW solar feed in rates coming crashing down. 5Oct 29, 2010 11:13 am I'm more annoyed by the NSW government changing policy than the new rate. I assume the new rate will still be gross. Which in my view is wrong. Make it net, so there is more of an incentive to save power consumption. Nor am I in the camp believing the whole exercise (solar installation) should be cost free or even profitable after a few years. At the taxpayers expense. Pulpo Re: NSW solar feed in rates coming crashing down. 6Nov 05, 2010 2:52 pm It should never have been 60 cents in the first place, way too high considering power retails for about 20cents per kWh. They were looking for an easy way to help meet green energy targets without having to build the infrastructure themselves. With gross feed in the power goes into the grid and can be traded as "green energy". Re: NSW solar feed in rates coming crashing down. 7Feb 21, 2011 7:56 pm Whenever an entrenched lobby feels threatened it uses every trick up its sleeve to fight the challenger. In this case it is the conventional power companies vs the green energy. It's the oldest trick to hold on to the old order as long as possible. It won't last though. People realize the many benefits of moving over solar or green energy sources and will do it even if the costs are little higher because of the long term benefits.
