Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Jul 20, 2010 3:15 pm We just got our newly-designed council rates bill, and for the first time ever we've been charged water separately. It seems ok, the amount, but I really don't know what's normal... We are a 2 person household, living in a 2 bedroom apartment, with 2 showers, a high (good) water rating washing machine and dishwasher. We do 1-2 loads of washing a week, and run the dishwasher on the eco 30 minute cycle 2-3 times a week. We have a total of approx. 75 minutes in the shower each week. So! Our reading for the last 6 months is 25075...not sure what that means. It also says Cons (kL) 982. We have to pay $570 for the water part alone (over 6 months). But this could be for our whole 15 apartment building. We only pay a portion of this...but I think it's an equal portion...so in that case how much we use isn't really that relevant, is it? That annoys me. If everyone else who lives in the building has 3-4 people in it, does 4 loads of washing a week and uses the dishwasher everyday, we're paying more when it's not our fault! Dammit! lol How much is your reading? Just to compare... How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How much water do you use? 2Jul 20, 2010 4:37 pm I had a similar thing where I was paying 1/10th of the total water bill at my old unit. My bills were quarterly and were in the vicinity of $150/quarter. Horrible thing is that when I practically moved into my boyfriends place (was there 5 nights out of 7) my bill didn't go down at all, but he was still only paying about $50 a quarter! Can you arrange to be separately metered, or is it not worth it? Re: How much water do you use? 3Jul 20, 2010 5:23 pm Nah, we can't. I don't know if $570 twice a year is a lot anyway for 2 people in the water-usage situation we're in... How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How much water do you use? 4Jul 20, 2010 7:35 pm grace_slick Nah, we can't. I don't know if $570 twice a year is a lot anyway for 2 people in the water-usage situation we're in... I know we're in different states - but DH and I just moved out of a 2 bedroom unit with 1 bathroom and that seems about right to me - from memory we were paying around $300 a Quarter and then $55 once a year for the Melbourne Water and Parks service fee. Most of our bill seemed to be fees and charges and taxes rather than our actual water consumption! (We had to stick to 155 litres of water a day per person due to our restrictions and we came in under that on most of our bills - just to give you a ball park figure on water volume consumption) Hope that helps somewhat! We used just over 40 kL last quarter - that is for 3 adults and a medium size garden. Grace, you cant possibly of used 982 kl in 6 months for 2 adults in an apartment with no garden - that must be the total of all the units Plasterboard Gyprock is very popular as a reveal liner these days. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17774 If what you describe is correct then the brick wall has been dry lined with villa board.
