Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Jun 15, 2010 2:19 pm Hi, I recently signed up for a going green newsletter that was really good and gave me heaps of info about solar panels and reducing my energy costs and wanted to ask people who much it usually costs to install solar panels by profesionals. i dont wanna pay a fortune and it seems all the companies i ask quote over 8k. incase anyone was curious the website i got the newsletter from is http://greenenergyinfo.comoj.com/ had a few issues sent to me already and there really interesting (talk about how solar pannels work and what good light bulbs are and why and wind turbines ect ect) thanks and hope to get an answer soon Re: Going Green?? Quick Question On Costs? 2Jun 16, 2010 10:12 am Hi fin, we are about to put in a grid-connect solar system. It depends on the size system you want. You can get 1kW systems for as little as $4000 after rebates, depending on your location. The level of rebate that you get back is on a tiered system based on geographical location. Have a look at this site: http://www.solarquotes.com.au/solar-cre ... ained.html WE are in zone 1 so get the highest rebate. Our energy provider will pay us 44.4c/kWh produced above what we use during the day, then we pay 18.8c/kWh we use at night (except for off-peak tariffs). We are leaning towards a 4.2kW system so we are looking at about $20000. $8000 will get you a 1.5-2kW system depending on location, supplier and quality of materials used. Quick Question On Costs? 3Jun 16, 2010 6:04 pm I paid $9,000 for a 3.15kW system with a local installer. The RECs were a bit higher back in May though. Read this forum - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/138 - lots of people discussing local outputs, prices, good/bad deals and installers, and issues that can cause problems . A lot of information there. Not very many people on Homeone seem to be interested in solar power. I guess it's another big expense after building a house but I won't be paying another electricity bill so I thought it was worth the extra. Re: Going Green?? Quick Question On Costs? 4Jun 16, 2010 7:02 pm We'll be putting at least a 1.5kw system on the roof when our house is built. But I work in the solar industry, so maybe I'm bias You can get a 1.5kw system for $2990, on a pitched roof in a metro area. Wait times are around 8 weeks at the moment. Its a good starting point for reduce your power consumption.
