I lurve fresh stuff and hate the supermarket.. I envy you both. I have no space and light at the back of the house. I could do it as a landscape in the front yard (ferns, water veg and food pots as grow beds including vertical) but I need a great big fence $$ to keep the cats out. Its really a challenge here just to get enough space that has meaningful light. My salad greens have just been planted so I had to buy them along with (gasp) frozen fish from Asia. Re: Wasting our food 23Jun 22, 2010 11:14 am onc_artisan I love home grown veggies, chooks, fruit, fish and crustacia. ..any thing left over isn't left over for long... something eats it I am a bit worried that we have 20 something chicks with about 8 weeks to go before lay. I think I need to do some marketing I hate waste Onc Onc, just wondering what set-up you have for the fish and crustacea? It is a 4 grow bed system(500lts each), with a 3000ltr Fish tank and a 1000ltr sump. The Marron have a system within a system... Like a multi level carpark LOL. But it work well. produces bucket loads of veggies and nice plump trout, the marron are OCD cleaners and keep the alge down. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Wasting our food 25Jul 09, 2010 6:48 am I know it sounds crazy but if you can try and create a zone or space where plants exist within the system and these plants grow down into a rock zone. If you can do that you might attract plecoptera and tricoptera sp. These are small invertebrates that filter feed detritus and excrete more nutrients. Tricoptera will build little sand tunnels under rocks and then like a tube worm filter water while plecoptera will munch away at food not eaten. If you do get both then you have a very healthy eco system working hard for you. They mature once a year during summer and if they get past the fish will live for one day, without mouth parts and breed. You might also get dragon and damsel fly larvae going in there, these guys make nice meals for fish but also munch away at parasites and mozzy larvae. If you have snails cleaning the rocks then the tricoptera will process the waste into liquid. Still saving for the fence, once its done and designed right I will be growing my own fish as well. If you go to clean rocky rivers you will find them under rocks, use a fine net and scrape the river bed disturbing rocks and you can count them by the dozen. of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 23764 "Losers" "humanity" "off time" "your" "top notch" "love symbol" Sounds like ponzo is done using other people's toilets 36 23886 |
