Or am I missing something with all your posts - where you quote someone else - but do not say anything yourself? Steve Re: Insulating your Home with Double Glazing 22Sep 17, 2007 5:59 pm a good way to increase you post count! : Re: Insulating your Home with Double Glazing 23Oct 30, 2007 12:29 pm And don't forget skylights!!
Some of the traditional skylights available on the market today are terrible for "heat gain" during summer and "heat loss" during winter. There are problems in Australia with some skylights not "keeping up" with global advances in solving the problems of heat gain and heat loss. There are natural lighting products that have solved the problem; so before you purchase a skylight make sure it is sealed top and bottom and does not act like a chimney taking your hot air outside or like a hole in your roof/insulation bringing hot air straight in. Re: Insulating your Home with Double Glazing 24Oct 31, 2007 6:39 am Excellent point Mark
Agree totally Never argue with an idiot!!!! They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience. Re: Insulating your Home with Double Glazing 25Nov 01, 2007 3:51 pm Have asked my architect, who's specialising in the sustainable housing, about the double glazed windows. He told me that in Perth only the top of the range, sealed, argon filled double glazed windows in uPVC frames would give a noticeable gain in insulation. But, they would cost approx $12,000 more for an average house. It's curtains with pelmets for me! Saudi saying How very true Double glazing will help in Perth - those cold winter windy winds - But in summer you need to shade them to stop the heat gain. Worth the cost - but just check who is quoting you. As for plastic windows - I've spoken about them elsewhere. Steve Re: 27May 27, 2009 5:25 pm mattwalker Devils advocate.... You need curtains anyway so why spend the money to upgrade to double glazing when curtains / drapes would help minimise the thermal loss? I agree. An insulating window covering provides more thermal resistance than another layer of air and glass (and isn't transparent to radiant heat). This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows.
