We are planning to build with Dixon homes, to our own passive solar design.
They supply as standard the Aqua Nova blackwater recycling system, which as I understand uses chlorine to disinfect the water, which may or not fail at some stage during heavy use. The cost is apparently $6-8000, plus $300 a year for them to come out quarterly to check and add chlorine tablets.
We have looked at other sewerage treatment options, but for the expense (12k for Biolytix, 14k for Novaclear) for the better options, I'm not completely convinced that they are all they say they are and I think there will be major improvements in this field in the next few years, and hopefully they will become cheaper.
So, we thought about just recycling greywater, and having a normal septic tank for blackwater. Dixon homes says a septic will probably cost as much as they will charge for the Aqua Nova, plus we'd have to pay more for the greywater system.
Does anyone have experience/knowledge of the different greywater systems and how much they might cost?
Do you think normal septic + greywater is a good choice at this point?
We are in a rural area, the house to be near the dam.
