Browse Forums Eco Living 1 May 24, 2009 6:58 pm Hi We're still trying to decide between evacuated tube solar or a heat pump hot water system... Our land can't access mains gas so we need to have an electric boost. We've seen lots of debate on evacuated tube solar vs heat pump on these forums and appreciate the differences. But just want to be sure the noise isn't a factor to make us go for ET solar. We've been looking at the Rheem Heat Pump (325L). http://www.rheem.com.au/domestic_produc ... 10&cat_id= Also seen here with great rebates in SA (page seven) http://www.originenergy.com.au/files/ca ... SA0506.pdf It's advertised as "whisper quiet" but we wonder just how quiet it really is. Would it disturb our neighbors? Or annoy us on a balmy night outdoors in the summer? How often would it kick in and operate? Has anyone actually installed one of these systems and able to help us? Motor is smaller so a little quieter, 51Dba for the Solahart one. It wil annoy you and the neigbour if it is close or where you can see it from your favorite spot outside. It will kick in whenever you draw off a quantity of hot water. It may run for hours on end especially in cold conditions. Check the performance at low temperatures. If you can afford the evac tubes, go for them, no noise, no moving and wearing parts and good performance. Re: Heat Pump Hot Water System - Noisy? 3Aug 09, 2009 10:46 pm You could always put it on a timer, set to come on when you are out, or early hours of the morning when you are dreaming.(ours comes on if needed after 9pm) onc_artisan Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Heat Pump Hot Water System - Noisy? 4Aug 10, 2009 12:07 am If you heat 300L of hot water a day it would normally cost about $420 with electricity Do you have your heart set on evacuate tube over flat plate? I modeled the improvement in performance: viewtopic.php?p=130244#p130244 It might be more efficient in winter but all this mean is that you will heat 98L of water instead of 62L each day. You still leaves have to heat the other 200 L with electricity. This represents a heating saving of 10c/day or no more than 40$ per year. Flat plate efficiency catches up quickly during the warmer months as well. If you refer to the Your Home technical manual, heat pump slightly edges out solar for lowered energy consumption ~ 15% improvement. Their prices vary from below to above equivalent solar systems based on how quickly that heater can recover. Often solar system boost on off-peak rates (which are about half of peak rates). Using electricity during peak hours for heat pump or boosting is more expensive. 18 90470 the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 13391 Hi, I have a double and whenever the wind picks up I can hear alot of banging in certain areas of the house.
