Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Jan 18, 2009 11:30 am Hi there. We are still in the tender stage and we found out from the builder that they are adding another solar panel due to North orientation of the front of our house (not allowing solar panels to face street). The solar panel will be installed on the west side. The add'l price is around $1,100. I have no idea what panel is this but probable the standard one for a new house. May I ask your opinion if there are other options to forego this cost since this is not originally in our budget? Should there be no option, is it reasonable cost?
Once again, thank you guys. Re: add'l cost for add'l solar panel due to north orientation 2Feb 19, 2009 11:43 am I would like to know as well. I would prefer zero solar panels. I would rather install thicker insulation, more reflective foil, energy efficient lights etc.... Troy Re: add'l cost for add'l solar panel due to north orientation 4Mar 03, 2009 1:46 pm That's bizarre - it should cost no more to simply move it from north to west, unless they are actually adding an extra panel to compensate for it being on the west and generating less energy.
Having said that, the loss from it being west will be relatively minimal anyway. Don't agree with the advice to get a tank instead - electricity prices are going through the roof. Apart from our solar hot water, we are planning to fill one side of the roof with Photo Voltaic solar panels. We have a tank too - and have upgraded all of our insulation, but some big savings to be made via solar hot water PV panels. The last home I lived in didn't have a pool and when i went to sell it the agents were not happy, even telling me to put one in to sell the place. The only thing stated in our home build contract for the additional cost is engineering support. … 3 7135 0 627 |
