Wondering if any one can give me information on BASIX as used in NSW.
Occasionally i come across BASIX ratings in materials and i would like to understand more about the grading system.
Is there a lookup table or something similar.

The BASIX site is the best place to start. http://www.basix.nsw.gov.au/information/index.jsp Stevep79 & Principessa Finished building Wisdom Homes Impression 33mkII in The Ponds, Sydney http://lilypadintheponds.blogspot.com Re: BASIX ratings 3Jan 15, 2009 9:01 am Taken from the Basix site:
Quote: BASIX Targets In order to obtain a BASIX Certificate confirming compliance with the NSW Government's sustainability requirements, a residential development proposal is required to use up to 40% less potable water and produce up to 40% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than the average home. The proposal also needs to achieve an appropriate level of thermal performance by meeting the Thermal Comfort requirements applicable for the proposal. The BASIX Energy target varies according to building type and location and the BASIX Water target incorporates regional variations such as soil type, climate, rainfall and evaporation rates. Borg if you go into the site you will find more about the rating system. As I understand it, each decision you make when building your home in terms of external materials/colors, lighting, cooling, insulation, flooring, etc etc, is rated and then determined if you meet the above requirements. If you don't, you need to install extras to meet the requirements (eg whirly birds, bigger rain tanks, we will have to install a permanent inside clothes line in the garage, etc etc) Still not in. Don't ask!? |
