Browse Forums Eco Living 1 Jan 24, 2014 8:09 am Hi, We are in victoria and the house we are in the process of buying (fingers crossed for mortgage!) has solar panels and I believe is receiving the higher 60c or 66c per KWh feed-in tariff. I was wondering how this works when we buy the property, does the feed-in tariff stay with the house and do we have to do anything to transfer it over to our names at settlement? Thanks Re: Solar panel feed-in tariffs, transfer to new owners? 2Jan 24, 2014 10:16 am In Qld it doesn't transfer across, in particular the old 44c kw/h FiT, as that's finished for new takers. If you buy a property with solar pv already there, you go on to the new lower FiT. I can only assume this would also apply down in Victoria, the higher one will disappear, and you'll go on to the current FiT in effect with your energy provider. Re: Solar panel feed-in tariffs, transfer to new owners? 3Jan 24, 2014 10:28 am No that all wrong. The house is what it tied to the high tarriff. There should be no issue in transferring across. It should be somewhat automatic as you meter and address is assigned for the higher tarriff. Re: Solar panel feed-in tariffs, transfer to new owners? 4Jan 24, 2014 5:20 pm OK thanks guys - I gather it is different in Vic compared to Qld or other states - just to confuse matters!! I have found some info that said that the tariff is tied to the property and should receive the higher tariff until 2024, but nothing that says what to do to transfer to new owners - hopefully as you say B STAR, it should just transfer over when we sign up to a new electricity provider/transfer electricity supply to new ownership. My parents just bought a house (in the UK) and had to get the vendors to sign a form to transfer the FiT to them, so just wondered if we had to do something similar. Thanks Re: Solar panel feed-in tariffs, transfer to new owners? 5Jan 24, 2014 5:34 pm I googled 'solar feed in tariff victoria' first result was http://www.energyandresources.vic.gov.a ... -in-tariff which has the answer. Re: Solar panel feed-in tariffs, transfer to new owners? 6Jan 24, 2014 5:54 pm Moving house The Premium Feed-in Tariff is linked to the property where the solar panels are installed, so when moving house you cannot take the Premium Feed-in Tariff with you. But any house which is signed up to the premium scheme will remain eligible until 2024, even if the house is sold and new residents move in. I looked into it a few years ago and my conclusion was to just build a carport that will support panels and get a system installed separately.
