I'm looking at installing a software based home automation system such as Homeseer or M-Control ... this looks like another choice (and a virtually free one at that). Let us know how you go with the installation and testing. Re: This is awesome..going to install this stuff this weekend... 5Sep 01, 2008 11:39 am So i installed this on the weekend and man..its awesome...
however its not as easy as it looks on the video. Encountered lots of problems...that i think the average users would not know how to resolve unless they know how to build their own kernels for linux. My problems consisted of the following: - ALSA drivers did not support my CK804 or NForce 4 chipset so it was hard for me to get spdif passthrough. - the home automation is good but a bit slow - the rs232 controllers are very limited and you really need to create your own scripts from scratch. - support for mkvs is limited and you will need to install your own codecs - needed a lot of hardware ..i wanted to control my tv as well as my amp and i only have one ir blaster so you had to have the components nearby so it can blast to both components - didn't get a chance to set up the security cameras yet but it should be fairly straight forward - the pabx is very difficult to set up and i haven't worked it out yet to get voip and your pstn lines working in sync yet. Overall, it has a lot of potential to be an awesome system but you really need to be fairly advance at linux to get everything working the way you want it. I will still be going down this path b/c learning by neccessity is the best way, however if you don't have the patience, time and passion to do this then its probably not for you. Re: This is awesome..going to install this stuff this weekend... 6Sep 01, 2008 12:54 pm Thanks, I'm clueless about linux, so I'll probably stick to a windows package then. Encountered lots of problems...that i think the average users would not know how to resolve unless they know how to build their own kernels for linux. snip... linux isn't really for the technically-challenged people. not bragging but I can probably make it work without any help (other than searching for possible solutions over the net) but there are times when you just want to it work straight (or almost straight) out-of-the-box and Windows is the only thing that comes to mind. I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending. All their existing trades and businesses don't work with… 14 105482 Hi I am wanting some opinions about the build of a steel shed I am going to get one about 4.5 x 2.5 m steel shed and the height will be about 2.3-2.4m high The one I am… 0 14434 That's a fantastic result!
