Acoustically Transparent material for Home Theatre walls

Hi there guys,

We are just about to start (finally) the build of our new home and it will have a dedicated home theatre. I have the electronic side of things sorted but am looking for a supplier of materials for the wall. This material must be non-stretching so that it can be stretched on timber frames without bagging and sagging and then mounted to the wall to cover acoustic treatments. It also needs to be acoustically transparent as I will be mounting speakers and subs behind the front wall - also lined with the material.

Any advice would be welcomed. In America, they use GOM (Guildford of Maine) material, but the shipping cost is ludicrous.

Well, I am answering my own forum question. Found a great supplier here in Australia, based in Melbourne but will freight the product free to anywhere in Australia. Katherine from RIM Fabrics has been amazing and I will be placing my order soon for their Trilogy One material, at about $13 per lineal metre (1.88m wide x 1.0 metre long) . Details are at:

Just signed up to say thank you for posting a reply even though you had no help finding an answer. I have just wasted a whole day trying to find a fabric like something from GOM or Camira for some sound absorption panels. What an arduous task that was. Rim Fabrics looks like Australia's only answer to acoustically transparent fabrics. How did your project turn out in the end? Did the fabric look good on the panels?

Also just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I'm looking at handover in approx 5-6 weeks & will then turn my "Home theatre" from a room into a proper Home theatre. This has saved me a lot of research time.
