Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Aug 08, 2008 3:07 pm Hi all helpful audio people,
Now I am very, very simple when it comes to technology so only use little words. I'm thinking that I would like some ceiling speakers in the alfresco and four internal rooms. All of these areas run off one another. I'm wondering what type of system the speakers have to be connected to? Do I have to upgrade to some big massive stereo system and how do they connect? Is it like the stereo plugs into the wall and this distributes the sound through the speakers? I really don't understand how it all works. I would like the five areas to be on three seperate zones as well if that is possible. I'm wondering if someone could give me a ballpark figure of the cost of putting the wiring in during the build and then a ballpark figure to actually get it operational. I don't need superb studio quality sound but I don't want it to sound crap either. Just so I can have music going when entertaining that can also be cranked up on the odd wild night. Thanks in advance, Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Multiple room audio 4Aug 08, 2008 8:28 pm joles,
A pair of speakers in 8" will be around $80 - $100 for the lower end of the range and up to $400 for the higher end. Cabling depends on distance but around $100 per pair if it is easy access roughly... You connect it to an amplifier / stereo system. An existing unit may be capable....it depends a bit. You can run the cables back to a wall plate and plug you stereo into that (Nice and neat) A speaker switch would be around $100 for a four way and up to $300 for a higher end unit. Zoning is a whole nother ball game...thats where the expense is. You need a seperate amplifier and source (cd eg.) for each zone... Big $$$$ Hope that hepls! Re: Multiple room audio 5Aug 10, 2008 11:41 am Thanks Matt,
That's exactly the type of ballpark stuff I was looking for. Gives me a bit to think about and work with. The other option is no zoning and just putting it in the rumpus and alfresco and with these prices that is definitely on the cards. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
