Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 23, 2016 9:02 am Hey guys, I was planning to run the service drop and internal conduit to inside my WIP, however my builder has actually put a phone point to the kitchen on my final plans which I hadn't picked up on. House is almost at lock up and they have run cat5e from the phone point to the external brick wall near the meter box and there is also comms conduit with a black cable coming up next to it which must connect up to the pit. Is this black cable the same one that NBN would run and if so, can I just run my internal conduit to the point near the meter box and have them install the PCD on the wall using the black cable? Do they normally just make a direct connection to this black cable when its only servicing 1 x phone point? Thanks My build with FHBD viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78344 Re: Question for the NBN/Cabling guru's 2May 23, 2016 1:52 pm It depends on what type of NBN connection you get. For FTTP, they would be pulling a fibre through instead of the black cable, and on through the conduit to the network termination device. For FTTN or FTTdp it should be much the same as the old phone network, in which case the black cable will carry the NBN, and gets connected in the PCD to the cable that goes to your modem. It sounds like your builder has set up for having a FTTN modem in the kitchen, which would work, but probably not be the best place to have it. This would be the cheapest way, and so is probably "normal" unless you request something more sensible. Otherwise, their idea may be to have the NTD/modem on the inside wall behind the PCD, and then run the cat5e from the NTD to the "phone" point. Re: Question for the NBN/Cabling guru's 3May 24, 2016 10:22 pm Thanks OneJohn It sounds like it might be a little risky to plan on them using the black cable so I will probably lay a new conduit with drawstring on the other side of the house to the exterior wall of my WIP. That way they can just punch it through and connect to the NTD My build with FHBD viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78344 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9960 I would say both styles you have pictured are steel.
