Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: Where do I place my ceiling speakers? 22Aug 04, 2008 2:33 pm Rodda Hi again Just to add to Jinroh's comment regarding the Onkyo 2 channel amp he mentions - firstly, this thing has too much power to be used in a multi-room setup IMHO - 60WRMS is plenty for that kind of application. Also, you'd need one of these for every zone, so you end up with 6 pieces of equipment where you could have one, and by the time you've bought 6 of these you possibly could have got something like the Elan S6 for the same amount of money! (and get ALL of the S6's other functionality thrown in for free!). And, having just sold my place and gotten the money for it we were hoping for I reckon the S6 I put in a few months ago helped a little... Hi Rod, with the onkyo, how many pairs of max speakers in total can it run? my plan is to only have one of these in the big living area downstairs (kitchen, dining, living, alfresco). so say i get the onkyo, run a cable from it to speaker selector like this: http://www.jamo.fi/Default.aspx?ID=1724 then connect it to 3 pairs of say 8 ohms speakers, will i be able to turn all speakers on at the same time? how about 4 pairs? and how will the 60W power distribution goes? Duminda, basically what Rod said, if you want to use your HTPC for different music in different zones and have easy control, you need a software like this: http://www.casatools.com/Products.aspx http://www.cepro.com/article/casatools_ ... o_software but again, this solution will be too much complicated. IMO, if you want to have your music library in your PC as the source for your multiroom audio, the system like sonos, duet, squeezebox is the only feasible solution at the moment. Re: Where do I place my ceiling speakers? 23Aug 04, 2008 3:24 pm Thanks for the advice everyone,
Rodda If you (as suggested earlier) get a sound card that allows multiple instances of stereo out (via multiple instances of Windows Media Player??) This is the plan Rodda then this will - IMHO - be virtually impossible to control without seeing the HTPC's desktop while trying to navigate this.... Agree ... either spend the extra $2000 or so for the full system or walk to the study whenever I want to change the music! Have to do some more thinking on this ... haven't even poured the slab yet, so I have a bit of time. Re: Where do I place my ceiling speakers? 24Aug 05, 2008 9:23 am Hi Everyone,
Sorry to keep nagging you, but I just found another system that might do the job (well most of it anyway) ... the Hills Home Hub music module http://thetechnoworxstore.com.au/home-music-systems.html Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This system seems do the same job that the Proart does, but cost $1000 less. Don't think it has the same watts as the Proart/ Elan, but that might not be a crucial issue as I'll be using the system for low volume elevator music anyway. It also has a separate IR module (cost $130 extra) which could possibily be configured to control the HTPC from a remote location. Do you have any experience with this system? Re: Where do I place my ceiling speakers? 25Aug 05, 2008 3:37 pm Yeah.... don't know about this Hills system. It appears to not follow the same conventions as the others we've mentioned (check out the wiring terminals on that hub/module?? where are the amps? how do you connect the audio sources?). Re: Where do I place my ceiling speakers? 26Aug 05, 2008 4:22 pm This might help ...
http://www.mainseacombe.com.au/link_docs/Hills%20Multi%20Room%20Audio%20Rev%20A.pdf I might have to go and talk to one of their installers to get a better idea. Re: Where do I place my ceiling speakers? 27Aug 05, 2008 6:23 pm OK, that info may have helped.
That looks a lot like this system (although, again, I think this Jamo one is a little more conventional): http://www.qualifi.com.au/index.jsp?ref ... duct=30931 I'm guessing the amps are in each of the 'Music Room Manager' keypads, and therefore are very likely more like the Jamo system and only about 15WRMS each (if the Jamo ones were more powerful I'd actaully use it a lot more for installs than the Elan system). Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home. Visit for… 1 15795 Appreciate that Chippy. I won’t do sand under pavers and will connect all up under pavers, however I was going to do: 1) Roadbase compacted with manual hand tamper 2)… 10 18566 |
